Safety Information and Precautions
This guide is packaged together with the product for ZQ280(A) Variable Frequency Drive. It
contains basic information for quick start of the drive. For safety and more information, please refer to
the ZQ280(A) VFD User's Manual, which can be downloaded on website: http://www.zest-electric.com
■ Electrical Safety

Extreme care must be taken at all times when working with the VFD or within the area of the VFD. The
voltages used in the VFD can cause severe electrical shock or burns and is potentially lethal. Only
authorized and qualified personnel should be allowed to work on VFD.
■ Machine/System Design and Safety of Personnel

Machine/system design, installation, commissioning startups and maintenance must be carried out by
personnel who have the necessary training and experience. They must read this safety information and
the contents of this manual. If incorrectly installed, the VFD may present a safety hazard.
The VFD uses high voltages and currents (including DC), carries a high level of stored electrical energy in
the DC bus capacitors even after power OFF. These high voltages are potentially lethal.
The VFD is NOT intended to be used for safety related applications/functions. The electronic “STOP
&START” control circuits within the VFD must not be relied upon for the safety of personnel. Such
control circuits do not isolate mains power voltages from the output of the VFD. The mains power
supply must be disconnected by an electrical safety isolation device before accessing the internal parts
of the VFD.
Safety risk assessments of the machine or process system which uses an VFD must be undertaken by the
user and or by their systems integrator/designer. In particular the safety assessment/design must take
into consideration the consequences of the VFD failing or tripping out during normal operation and
whether this leads to a safe stop position without damaging machine, adjacent equipment and machine
operators/users. This responsibility lies with the user or their machine/process system integrator.
The system integrator/designer must ensure the complete system is safe and designed according to
the relevant safety standards. ZEST Technology and Authorized Distributors can provide
recommendations related to the VFD to ensure long term safe operation.
■ Electrical Installation - Safety
Electrical shock risk is always present within an VFD including the output cable leading to the motor
terminals. Where dynamic brake resistors are fitted external to the VFD, care must be taken with regards
to live contact with the brake resistors, terminals which are at high DC voltage and potentially lethal.
Cables from the VFD to the dynamic brake resistors should be double insulated as DC voltages are
typically 300 VDC to 800 VDC.
Mains power supply isolation switch should be fitted to the VFD. The mains power supply must be
disconnected via the isolation switch before any cover of the VFD can be removed or before any
servicing work is undertaken stored charge in the DC bus capacitors of the PWM VFD is potentially lethal
after the AC supply has been disconnected. The AC supply must be isolated at least 10 minutes before any
work can be undertaken as the stored charge will have been discharged through the internal bleed resistor
fitted across the DC bus capacitors.
Whenever possible, it is good practice to check the DC bus voltage with a VDC meter before accessing
the VFD bridge. Where the VFD input is connected to the mains supply with a plug and socket, then
upon disconnecting the plug and socket, be aware that the plug pins may be exposed and internally
connected to the DC bus capacitors (via the internal bridge rectifier in reversed bias). Wait 10 minutes to
allow stored charge in the DC bus capacitors to be dissipated by the bleed resistors before commencing
work on the VFD.

1. Product parameter data

Parameter data is an important setting parameter of the inverter . The parameters are as follows:
Product Group F
parameter F0, F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F7, F8, F9, FA, FB, FC, FP
data (read and write)

The parameter data communication address is defined as follows:

1) When reading parameter data for communication, for the parameter data of F0~FP group, the high sixteen bits of
the communication address are directly 0 0-0D, and the low sixteen bits are directly the seria7l number of the
parameter in the function group, for example:
F0-16 function parameter, its communication address is 0010H, of which 00H represents the function parameter of the
F0 group, and 10H represents the hexadecimal data format of the serial number 16 of the parameter in the function

2) When writing parameter data for communication
For F0~FP group parameter data, for F0~FP group parameter data, the high sixteen bits of the communication address
are directly 0 0-0D, and the low sixteen bits are directly the serial number of the parameter in the function group, for
example:
--Write function parameter F0-16: When writing, its communication address is 0010H

Inverter fault description
When reading the fault description of the inverter, the communication address is fixed at 8000H. The host computer can
obtain the current fault code of the inverter by reading the address data. For the description of the fault code, see the
definition in the "function parameter table" parameter.
Inverter running status
When reading the running status of the inverter by communication, the communication address is fixed at 3000H, and
the host computer can obtain the current running status information of the inverter by reading the address data, which
is defined as follows:

Inverter running status communication Read Status Word Definition

address
1 : Forward operation 2 : Reverse operation
3000H
3 : Stop

Control parameter
Control parameters are divided into control command, digital output terminal control, analog output AO1 control,
analog output AO2 control, high-speed pulse (FMP) output control

Control commands
When F0-02 (command source) is selected as 2: communication control, the host computer can control the related
commands such as start and stop of the inverter through this communication address. The control commands are
defined as follows :

Inverter running status communication

1 : Forward operation 2 : Reverse operation

3 : Forward jog 4 : Reverse jog
2000H
5 : Free stop 6 : Decelerate to stop
7 : Fault reset

Communication settings
The communication setting value is mainly used for the given data when the frequency source, torque upper limit
source, V/F separation voltage source, PID given source, PID feedback source, etc. are selected as communication
given in the product. Its communication address is 1000H. When the host computer sets the communication address
value, its data range is -10000~10000, corresponding to the relative given value -100.00%~100.00

3. Modbus communication protocol

The product series inverter provides RS485 communication interface and supports Modbus-RTU slave
communication protocol. Users can realize centralized control through computer or PLC, set inverter running
commands, modify or read parameters, read inverter working status and fault information, etc. through this
communication protocol. The serial communication protocol defines the content and format of information transmitted
in serial communication. These include: host polling (or broadcast) format; host encoding method, including:
parameters required for action, transmission data and error checking, etc. The response of the slave also adopts the
same structure, including: action confirmation, return data and error checking, etc. If the slave has an error in receiving
the information, or cannot complete the action required by the master, it will organize a fault message as a response
and feed it back to the master .
4. Communication data structure

The Modbus-RTU protocol communication data format of the product series inverter is as follows, the inverter only
supports the reading or writing of Word-type parameters, and the corresponding communication read operation
command is 0x03 ; 10 , support byte or bit read and write operations :
Example 1: Read parameter d - 01 (set frequency) , query d- 01 to set the frequency parameter, and receive a return
value of 0 Hz

5.Parameter parameter address marking rules

The rule is represented by the parameter group number and label as the parameter address:
High byte: 00~0F (group F), 70 ( group d ) Low byte: 00~FF
For example: to access parameter F3-12, the access address of the parameter is represented as 0x030C;
Note: FP group: parameters can neither be read nor changed;
Group d : can only be read, parameters cannot be changed.
Some parameters cannot be changed when the inverter is in the running state; some parameters cannot be changed
regardless of the state of the inverter; when changing the parameters, pay attention to the range, unit and related
descriptions of the parameters .
