The G20 was founded in 1999 after the Asian financial crisis as a forum for the Finance
Ministers and Central Bank Governors to discuss global economic and financial issues. The
key objective of the G20 Summit is to give the heads of the largest economies of the world a
forum to meet and discuss global economic cooperation and policy coordination. The
European Union and 19 other nations make up the G20, sometimes known as the Group of
Twenty. With a major fraction of the world's population and GDP, these member nations make
up a sizable portion of the global economy. The members of G20 are: Argentina, Australia,
Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea,
Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom and United States and
the European Union.
The core objectives of the G20 Summit are to increase communication and cooperation
amongst the major economies of the globe in order to advance prosperity, sustainable
development, and economic stability. Every year, the leaders of G20 members meet to
discuss mainly economic and financial matters and coordinate policy on some other issues of
mutual interest. The G20 is not a permanent institution with a headquarters, offices, or staff.
Instead, its leadership rotates on an annual basis among its members, its decisions are made
by consensus, and implementation of its agenda depends on the political will of the individual
states.
The G20 New Delhi Summit is chaired by the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. G20

G20 website g20.org was recently launched by Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri
Narendra Modi and India took over the official social media handles, including the twitter
handle @g20org, from the previous Presidency, Indonesia.
The G20 is like a big meeting where leaders from 20 important countries and their top
bankers get together to talk about important stuff. India has assumed the Presidency of the
G20 from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023. This period of the G20 Presidency for
India also marks the onset of “Amritkaal,” a 25-year era that commenced on August 15,
2022, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the nation’s independence.
What are G20 agendas?
If we notice closely the G20 was launched as a forum for economic cooperation focusing
majorly on broad macroeconomic issues, but in due course of time and recognizing the need

presidency. To realize this, citizen engagement and large-scale public participation through
various Jan Bhagidari activities are planned throughout the year.
India hosted over 200 meetings in over 50 cities across 32 different work streams. The
Hornbill Festival is held in Kohima during December 2022 when India took over the
Presidency of G20 featured a special focus on G20. One hundred monuments, including
some UNESCO world heritage sites were illuminated and citizens were invited to join a selfie
campaign on My Gov around these illuminated monuments.
