DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

ACADEMIC YEAR: 2023-24 (EVEN SEMESTER)
GE3251-ENGINEERING GRAPHICS
UNIT-IV

PROJECTION OF SECTION OF SOLIDS

1. A hexagonal prism side of base 45mm and axis 75mm long rests with its base on HP,
such that one of its rectangular faces is parallel to VP. A section plane perpendicular to
HP and parallel to VP cuts the prism at a distance of 15mm from its axis. Draw its top
and sectional front views. (APR/MAY 2023)
2. A triangular prism with a base side of 45mm and height 60mm rets on its base on HP
with a rectangular face perpendicular to VP. It is cut by an auxiliary inclined plane
such that the true shape of the section is an isosceles triangle of maximum size. Draw
its projections and true shape of section. (APR/MAY 2023)
3. A cylinder of base diameter 50mm and axis length 60mm is resting on HP on one of
its generators with its axis perpendicular to VP. It is cut by a plane inclined to 35 0 to
VP and perpendicular to HP and is bisecting the axis of the cylinder. Draw its top
view, front view and true shape of section.
(APR/MAY 2022)
4. A cone of base diameter 50mm and axis height 70mm is resting on HP on its base. It
is cut by a section plane which is parallel to one of its extreme generators so that the
true shape of the section is a parabola with base 45mm. draw the front view, sectioned
top view and true shape of the section.
(APR/MAY 2022)
5. A hexagonal prism of base side 35mm and axis length 55mm is resting on one of its
bases with two of the vertical rectangular faces perpendicular to VP. It is cut by a
plane inclined at 500 to HP and perpendicular to VP and passing through a point at a
distance 15mm from the top base. Draw its front view, sectioned top view and true
shape of the section.
(NOV/DEC 2023)
6. A cylinder of base diameter 50 mm and height 65mm rets on its base on HP. It is cut
by a plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 300 to HP and meets the axis at a
distance 30mm from the base. Draw the front view, sectioned top view and true shape
of the section. (NOV/DEC 2022)
