a) Principle of composition.
b) Principle of Moments.
2 The following forces acts at a point, compute X and Y components of force system. 2 III
0
(i) 20 N inclined at 30 towards North of East.
(ii) 25 N towards North.
(iii) 30 N towards North West.
(iv) 35 N inclined at 400 towards South of West.

4 Determine the angle θ for the system of strings ABCD in equilibrium as shown in 2 III
figure.

5 Two cylinders A and B rest in a channel as shown in Figure. The cylinder A has a 2 III
diameter of 100 mm and weighs 200 N, cylinder B has a diameter of 180 mm and
weights 500 N. The channel is 180 mm wide at bottom with one side vertical and the
other side at 60° inclination. Find the reactions at contact points.

6 A co-planar parallel force system consists of four parallel forces as shown in figure. 2 III
Reduce the system into a single force and at couple at A and B.

7 Determine the resultant of force acting on a plate as shown in figure and also 2 III
determine X, Y and Z intercepts of resultant force from the origin point A. (dimensions
in mm)

Unit – IV : Support Reaction & Friction

1 Find the support reaction for the cantilever beam loaded as shown in figure. 3 III

2 |D r . A I T
2 Find the support reactions A and B for the loaded beam as shown in figure. 3 III

4 Determine the support reactions at A, B, C and D of the loaded beam shown in figure. 3 III

5 A block of weight 300 N is resting on rough horizontal plane surface. Determine the 3 III
magnitude and direction of minimum force P require just to move the body rightwards.
Take µS = 0.35 at contact surfaces.

6 A ladder 6 m long is weighs 250 N is placed against rough vertical wall at an angle of 3 III
600 with respect to floor. The coefficient of friction between the wall and ladder is 0.25
and that between floor and ladder is 0.3. Calculate The minimum distance, a man
weighing 600 N is able to climb the ladder.
7 Compute tension in the string and value of P required to impend the motion of the 3 III
