In 1814, Dickens, his parents and eight brothers and sisters moved to London. When he was a young boy, he had to leave school and work in a factory because his family were very poor. Charles Dickens’ early life was difficult, As a young man he worked very hard to become a successful writer. He was a reporter for several magazines and newspapers and started writing short stories. In 1833, one of his short stories appeared in the Monthly Magazine. ‘A few years later, he published his first novel, The Pickwick Papers, in monthly episodes from March 1836 until November 1837. Charles RENEE Dickens Dickens’ novel was very popular and made him famous. From 1837 to 1839, Oliver Twist came out in the magazine, Bentley’s Miscellany. It was a huge success, In 1836, Dickens married Catherine Hogarth and they had ten children. Over the years, he wrote many books including David Copperfield, Great Expectations and A Christmas Carol. He travelled all over the country giving readings of his books acting out all the characters and stories for the public. Charles Dickens died on 9th june, 1870. He is fone of the greatest writers of the English language. His stories are stil popular 130 years after his death. Charles Dickens uses his own expe- riences as a young child to show a world of crime and cruelty. Oliver is a character who is very close in personality to young Charles Dickens. He is poor, hungry, and helpless but he tries to be good and suceed in life, In most of Charles Dickens’ books, there are good and bad people and each story has a moral. In Oliver Twist, good is greater than evil and all the good people live happily ever after, VeerThe Plot thieves teach him into a thief again. A young boy, Oliver Twist, Tuns away from a cruel workhouse and goes to London. Once there, a gang of steal money from peoples pockets. A kind gentleman saves Oliver's life and takes him back to his home. But the gang of thieves find Oliver and try to turn him | Oliver Twist Oliver is an innocent little boy who cannot steal from people. He is a good person who only wants someone to love him. how to Mr Brownlow Mr Brownlow is a kind man who wants to help Oliver. He gives Oliver a proper home and tries to find his family. Charley Bates Charley is one of Fagin’s young thieves. Jack Dawkins Jack is a young thief who finds Oliver on the streets of London and introduces him to a world of crimeFagin Fagin is a leader of a gang of thieves who tries to teach Oliver how to steal. He is a bad man who is only interested in money. Edward Leeford (Monks) Monks, Oliver's half brother, is an evil man who is involved with Fagin and his gang of thieves. He hates Oliver and wants him to go to prison Rose Maylie Rose is a loving and gentle woman who brings great joy to Oliver’ life. Nancy Nancy works for Fagin but she cares about Oliver and ; tries to help him. She is in love with Bill Sikes even though she knows he is a bad man.
