Exercise #1 (5)
A 60Hz transformer is rated 30kVA, 4000V/120V. The open circuit test, performed
with the high voltage side open, gives Poc = 100W, Ioc=1.1455A. The short circuit
test, performed with the low voltage side shorted, gives Psc=180W ,Vsc = 129.79V.
If the transformer short circuit impedance is 0.0324 pu and the open circuit current is
0.0046 pu. The rated iron losses are 100W and the rated winding losses are 180W.
a) Sketch the equivalent circuit elements of the transformer (1)
b) Calculate the parameters equivalent circuit elements of the transformer?
transformer (1.5)
c) Calculate the
he efficiency when the load at the secondary is at rated voltage,
20kW at 0.8pf lagging?
lagging (1.5)
d) Calculate the
he necessary primary voltage when the load at the secondary is at
rated voltage, 20kW at 0.8pf lagging? (1)
Solution:
(a)
(b)
( c)
( d)
Exercise #2 (/5)
A three-phase synchronous generator is driven by a gas turbine.
The synchronous reactance is X=4 Ω.
The losses in the generator may be neglected.
It has been just been connected to an infinite bus with a phase voltage of 20kV
and a frequency of 50 Hz in a proper way.
a) Sketch the equivalent circuit of the synchronous machine. (1)
b) Calculate the stator current just after the proper grid connection. (1)
c) The excitation current is doubled while the power remains the same.
Calculate the stator current phasor (value and angle or real and imaginary part) and
sketch the phasor diagram. (1.5)
d) The shaft power is increased to 300 MW while the excitation current
remains the same at double the value during grid connection. Sketch the phasor
diagram and calculate the stator current phasor (value and angle or real and
imaginary part) and the load angle. (1.5)
Solution:
a) equivalent circuit
b) Before grid connection, the rotor runs synchronously with the grid (frequency
of machine and bus are equal). The power level is just high enough to overcome
friction and windage losses and iron losses, there is no additional torque. The
voltage of the machine and the bus are equal: Ef=Vt.
( c)
( d)
(a)
(b) Vph= 230 V, R1=Rs= 0.030 Ohm
X1+Xm= V2oc/Poc= 5.12 Ohm
Psc=I2sc (R1+R2) R1+R2=0.0592 Ohm
Then, R2= 0.0292 Ohm
X1+X2= 0.223 Ohm
If woud rotor or class A is used, X1=X2=0.1115 Ohm
And Xm=5.0085 Ohm
(c)
(d) The difference is due to the iron loss and the mechanical losses.
