A. In September 2022 20 MnCr5 Alloy Steel price on an average was ₹83,000 a tonne. Source: Published Data
B. Prices in September 2022 were about 6% higher than last year, the same as the previous month and 7% lower than the peaks in Apr 2022. The prices remain
same as the last months.
C. India imported till date USD 553 mn of alloy steel in FY23 and exported USD 1633mn. Data available till date shows a 9% increase in value of alloy steel imports
and 33% increase in alloy steel exports while in quantity terms it is a 23% decline in imports and 11% increase in exports. This clearly suggests that dollar
appreciation contributed to increased prices.

April 2022. The prices show a decline for the fifth consecutive month now.
C. Substitution of pig iron with steel scrap (made duty-free in the 2021 Union Budget) has led to reduction in pig iron consumption from 9.90 MT in FY17 to 4.94 MT in
FY22.
D. Hectic lobbying by Indian steel makers for domestic consumption of iron ore had led to the imposition of export duty on pig iron which is forcing the domestic pig iron
industry to cut down production because of weak domestic demand and higher costs of exports.
