We, the Bachelor of Science in Midwifery students of Ilocos Sur Community College, seek
your permission to conduct a "Kalusugan, Kaligtasan, at Kapakanan ng bawat bata ang
tutukan" in Immayos Norte, San Juan, Ilocos Sur on May 29, 2024, at 9:00 am, as part of our
requirements in Primary Health Care 2- Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI)
course. We believe that this event will provide us with a better and close relationship with the
community residents of Immayos Norte, San Juan towards a healthier and happier community
through the conducted program.
This program aims to reduce the rate of dengue and diarrhea within the community. Dengue
fever and diarrhea are the health concerns in Brgy. Immayos Norte, San Juan. In an effort to
create a healthier environment for all residents, we are implementing a program that will greatly
benefit the community. The goal of the activity is to give them enough information about
childhood illnesses to enable them to prevent and manage them. The seminar's agenda has been
carefully designed to meet the needs of our organization as well as the points of view of the
participants.
More so, this will develop our sense of advocacy and community by exposing ourselves to
activities that give back to society. We believe that engaging in community activities such as
this program will nurture our passion for our future services. In order for us to develop into
caring healthcare professionals in the future, it is essential that we get the chance to impart our
knowledge and resources to the people living in our community. Your help and support in
making this event and presentation feasible would be greatly appreciated.

I. RATIONALE

• The midwifery students of Ilocos Sur Community College are organizing a “Kalusugan,
Kaligtasan, at Kapakanan ng bawat bata ang tutukan" for the children in the community as part
of our final Project in Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI). This event will
provide us with a better and close relationship with the community residents of Barangay
Immayos Norte, San Juan, Ilocos Sur towards a healthier and happier community through the
conducted program.

II. OBJECTIVES
• To increase community awareness about the causes and prevention of dengue and diarrhea.
• To encourage proper waste management practices to eliminate breeding grounds for
mosquitoes.
• To nurture our passion for our future services that will develop into caring health care
professionals.

Narrative Report:

“Kalusugan, Kaligtasan, at Kapakanan ng bawat bata ang tutukan” a Health Education Outreach in
Immayos Sur, San Juan, Ilocos Sur

Date: May 29, 2024

Objective: To educate the adults about Dengue and Diarrhea prevention and the children
about the importance of hand washing.

The day started with a warm welcome from the Barangay Captain of Immayos Sur, San Juan,
Ilocos Sur. The local community hall was filled with eager participants, adults and children
alike, ready to learn about health and hygiene.

The first session was directed towards the adults, focusing on Dengue and Diarrhea. Some of
us began by explaining the causes and symptoms of both diseases. Ms. Cheryl Ceria and Mrs.
Glendalyn Foronda emphasized the importance of clean surroundings to prevent Dengue, as
it is transmitted by mosquitoes that breed in stagnant water. For Diarrhea, they stressed the
significance of safe food handling and consumption of clean water.

They demonstrated the correct usage of mosquito nets and repellents, and discussed the need
for immediate medical attention if symptoms of Dengue or severe Diarrhea are observed. The
adults actively participated in the session, asking questions and sharing their experiences,
which made the discussion more interactive and informative.

The second session was dedicated to the children. The focus was on the importance of hand
washing. We explained to the children’s how germs are easily transferred from our hands to
our bodies, leading to various diseases. A step-by-step demonstration of proper hand washing
technique was conducted, emphasizing the need to scrub all parts of the hands with soap for
at least 20 seconds.

The children were enthusiastic and eager to learn. They followed along the demonstration,
practicing the hand washing steps. To make the session more engaging, a song was
introduced that lasted for the duration of the recommended hand washing time. The children
enjoyed this activity and promised to practice proper hand washing at home.

The health teaching session concluded with a distribution of hygiene kits, gifts and foods to
the participants and a promise to conduct follow-up sessions in the future. The community
expressed their gratitude and looked forward to more such informative sessions.

Overall, the health education outreach was a success. It not only provided vital health
information to the community of Immayos Sur but also fostered a sense of unity and
cooperation among its members in their pursuit of a healthier lifestyle.
