Urban Design Studio 2 Syllabus Spring 20
Aims
This 4th year design-studio module is intended as a tutorial experience of
urban design and will focus on a re-development project of a selected site in
the suburb area of Daegu City.
By analyzing some exemplary study cases of contemporary urban design
projects developed in East Asian, Europe and America, basic information on
topics such as: introduction to contemporary design methods, conceptual
approach, form and design, spatial composition principles, site and climate
analysis will be delivered.
During the course a series of workshops and seminars will be programmed
in cooperation with the Department of Architectural Design and the
Department of Interior Design. At least one appropriate site visit/field trip will
be arranged.
During the mid-term and final exams every group of students will present
and discuss their works in front of a panel of professionals and experts from
different fields.
Learning objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental urban space design methodologies, strategies and concepts through the
analysis of significant precedents of modern and contemporary architectures and urban projects.
Understand the main concepts and principles of interrelationship between form, space and function in the contemporary cities.
Recognize themes, principles, ideas, theories and terms needed to develop effective and original urban design projects.
Master techniques for projects’ presentation and the preparation and the progressive development of a personal and original
design portfolio and sketchbook for professional activity as an urban designer.
