Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Surveillance and Monitoring:
Constantly monitor the work area where hot work is being performed.
Watch for signs of fire, sparks, or hot metal that could ignite combustible materials

Fire Prevention:
•Ensure that flammable materials are removed or properly protected from sparks and hot work.
•Verify that fire prevention equipment is readily accessible and in good working condition.
•Make sure that appropriate fire blankets, barriers, and covers are used to protect nearby
flammable materials.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Emergency Preparedness:
• Be familiar with the location & operation of fire extinguishers and other firefighting
equipment.
• Know the emergency evacuation routes and procedures.
• Ensure clear access to exits and firefighting equipment.

• Fire fighting:
• Respond immediately to incipient fires using firefighting equipment.
• If a fire cannot be controlled with available equipment, initiate an emergency response by
activating the fire alarm and calling the fire department.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Communication:
• Maintain clear communication with workers performing hot work to alert them
immediately if hazardous conditions arise.
• Report any safety hazards or violations to the supervisor or safety officer.

Site Inspection:
•Conduct a thorough inspection of the hot work area before work begins to
ensure it is safe to proceed.
•Perform a final inspection after hot work is completed to ensure there are no
lingering sparks or smoldering materials.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Documentation:
• Keep records of the hot work activities, including the location, time, and type of
work performed.
• Document any incidents or near-misses related to fire hazards.

Training and Certification:


•Complete required fire watcher training and certification programs.
•Stay updated on fire safety protocols and best practices.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Post-Work Monitoring:
• Remain on-site for a designated period after hot work has ceased to monitor for
potential fire hazards.
• Ensure the work area is completely safe before leaving.

Training and Certification:


•Complete required fire watcher training and certification programs.
•Stay updated on fire safety protocols and best practices.
