1 PacDrive M PacDrive 3 Project Migration Toolkit

General
The PacDrive M PacDrive 3 Project Migration Toolkit provides support in the forefront
of a migration from PacDrive M to PacDrive 3. It enables to prepare PacDrive M
projects for the migration to PacDrive 3.
The toolkit shows the user which POUs (function blocks and functions) are used in the
examined project, that are already replaced by newer versions in PacDrive M and not
available anymore in PacDrive 3.
Scope of the toolkit
The toolkit consists of:
• this document. In the following identified as documentation.
• Libraries for PacDrive M (EPAS-4) which equate the available function range of
the "obsolete" libraries of PacDrive 3.
• the modification services of the PacDrive 3 "obsolete" libraries.

The toolkit contains selected libraries. In following versions it is supplemented by ad‐

ditional libraries.
Safety information
To use the toolkit, the libraries used in the project have to be replaced by the matching
libraries of the toolkit.
The content of the libraries is reduced to the interface definitions that are neccessary
to compile the user project. The POUs have no functionality. An online operation is
therefore not possible.

CAUTION
UNEXPECTED BEHAVIOR OF THE MACHINE IS POSSIBLE!
• Do not use to operate a machine.
• Use the libraries of the toolkit only to compile the project.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment damage.

A download of an application in a controller that controls a machine abruptly causes

the machine program to have no more influence on the operation of the machine. This
can lead to mechanical damage in the machine.
The toolkit contains protective mechanisms against this type of use but it does not
cover every possible mishandling.
Recommended use

Proceed as follows:
▶ Replace the libraries in the project against the matching libraries of the toolkit.
▶ Compile project.
▶ Remove compile errors that occur by using newer POU versions
(The modification services of the PacDrive 3 "obsolete" libraries in the toolkit ex‐
plain which existing POU's have to be replaced by newer POU's).
▶ Compile again. (No compile errors should occur).
▶ Replace toolkit libraries by the newest version of the original PacDrive M libraries.
▶ Test the project on a simulation system or in a machine.

It is possible to replace the toolkit libraries at any time against the original PacDrive M
libraries again and test the project on a controller.
Restrictions
• During the import of a project prepared with the toolkit in the PacDrive 3 engineering
system SoMachine Motion, compile errors will still occur. The toolkit only shows
changes that are meaningful in EPAS-4 and still allow the performance of the
project with EPAS-4 on a controller. Some of the changes that have to be done
during the import in PacDrive 3 can only be done appropriately in PacDrive 3. The
toolkit does not show these. This includes for example, POU's that are moved from
one library to the other and POU's whose interface had to be adjusted.
• An online operation with the libraries of the toolkit is not possible. However if the
project compiles without errors the libraries can be replaced against the newest
PacDrive M libraries and be tested with them.
• When using the toolkit it can come to compile errors in libraries that are not supplied
with the toolkit. If the affected library is a PacDrive library, then check if a newer
version of the toolkit is available that contains this library. If not, ignore the errors.
