Share your thoughts on encountering cultural differences.

How would you plan to adapt

to Korean school life and culture?

Culture is the ideas, costumes, and social behavior of a particular person or society. For
it is known that South Africa has lot of cultures therefore I am nor new when it comes to
encountering cultural differences. For we have about 11 official languages for which I
know five of them I can communicate with it verbal and non-verbal. I am easily to adapt
in environment with different cultures. In 2018 when I was in university, I was attending
church that was international and I happened to have a Shona speaking friend from
Zimbabwe. It made me gain interest in learning about different cultures in a way that if
they can sing a song that is in other language after service I would go and ask the
singer the meaning of the song and where I can download and find the correct lyrics for
it. This made me had interest in such a way where I have decided to do Bachelor of Arts
in languages. It gave me opportunity to even learn Philippians language.

I am a person with respect I respect other people’s culture as I expect others to do the
same to mine. I have found dressing code of Koreans showing respect and I think it will
also looks good on me, as I am willing to try it when I get there in Korea. I love how they
greet each other it shows respect, actual I love everything about Koreans life. In
addition, if the is something I do not understand about culture I will ask for clarity in that
way I will be learning.

I understand that the is a huge difference in South African culture and South Korean
culture and it will be the best experience for me to learn about it and I am ready at any
cost. I have always loved Koreans food for they are spicy and I am looking teste
Bulgogi. Thinking that in the next few months, I will teste, them it gives me joy. I plan to
adapt in Korean school life by ensuring that I build health relationships with my leaders
and co- teachers. This will make my transition to be simple because I will be learning
from my seniors or people who have been in teaching from a long time ago.

Explain your teaching philosophy briefly. How will you connect your background skills
and experience to teaching English in your classroom? How would you develop your
teaching skills?
It is gratifying as a teacher seeing your learners’ progress in life. My teaching
philosophy is to make a classroom environment be more welcoming to every leaner
feeling as if they are at home so that they can all be engaged in a lesson. As a teacher,
I ensure that I treat all my learners with equality and respect. In addition, being ensure
that all learners do the same with all learners, they respect one another they do not call
others with names, regarding their physical appearance, disability or religion.

I use different teaching methods including learner centered approach and interactive
where by I will be using real world examples in a lesson to show them how they can
apply what they are learning in real life. I am focusing in learners needs, interests and
create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. I am focusing in what I want
leaners to achieve using problem solving skills and critical thinking. I believe in
empowering learners to take ownership of their learning where by I will give them
activity to do research on their own I will only prove them with resources that they can
use. After I will give them feedback that will encourage them to try again. I create
positive learning atmosphere by giving rewards to beat performance this makes all
learners want to be engaged in a lesson. I try to show my leaners that I care for them by
wanting to know more about their backgrounds and meanings of their names. As a
teacher, I make classroom code of conduct with learners and make sure that they all
understand their consequences. I have gained patience where I have volunteered to
teach. Because patience is the key to understand your leaners needs because that
have different learning pace and you have to meet them at any cost. With my patience
in teaching, it will make me use different teaching methods in my learners. I am whom I
am today because of a teacher who took step to teach me to write my name and read
and the patience she used is the one that I am going to use on my leaners

Why you want to teach EFL and why you want to teach in Korea.

Growing up I always wanted to be a teacher because there were many teachers who
contributed for me to have interest in teaching. One of them was my English and life
science. He inspired me that one day I could become a great teacher like him.

Currently I have volunteered to teach English and Xitsonga in my local school. Teaching
them allows me to have positive impact in their lives as I shape their minds and inspire
their future. I had I a friend who was teaching EFL online and now is currently in South
Korean she made me realize that since I have teaching passion I can not only teach
local learners but I can teach all over the world. Why don’t I apply for it? Teaching in
other countries could continuously develop my skills, knowledge and shape me to
become better person and education.

Her advice made me realize that with my bachelor of arts in languages and Post
graduate certification in education it can qualify me to teach abroad. That is when I
knew I should just take this opportunity with two hands. Because it will allow me to help
learners achieve their goals and it will make me feel good knowing that I had impact in
lives of them

Reason why I want to teach English in South Korea is their system of education in a
way that it is competitive, after doing my research I have found out that education is the
key and they aim to produce high quality education. Teaching in Korea cannot only offer
chance to travel but opportunity for personal growth.
