II. ENGAGE: Activity 3: Answer the following questions

1. Why is it important to study the history of a sport?

Answer: The history of a certain sport plays role on the game. Through knowing its origin, we will
be knowledgeable enough about how it was discovered, founded, and popularized. Our first
module tackled the history of badminton. Through it I was able to know the oldest badminton club
in the world which is the Badminton Club of the City of New York. I also learned who governs the
sport, its first competition, and where it was specifically held. There were also countries who
dominated it, which resulted to international competitions all over the world. Studying the history of
the sports helps us to understand its pattern and how the game was introduced. It also allows
learners to properly understand its basic concepts and terms. Students will also be allowed to learn
why present and past practices have emerged. They will also be provided with ideas on how the
sport evolved as time goes by. In studying the history of the sports, we can familiarize its rules and
standards. Knowing the history can also impact the way we appreciate a sport, because as
students we can be provided with enough details about it and be knowledgeable enough to know
its benefits to the players.

2. What are the purposes of the sports in our country?

Answer: Sports helps in the development of the country. It plays a huge role in enhancing qualities
of discipline because children are provided with the opportunity to learn qualities such as teamwork
and leadership training. Sports can also help unite nations. There are some events related to
sports that invites different countries to unite, this creates friendship to every nation involved.
Sports may also result to a peaceful relation between countries through international sports events.
One of its examples is the SEA games, a biannual multi-sport event involving participants from the
current 11 countries of Southeast Asia, which is founded to promote better relations among the
countries of peninsular Southeast Asia. Playing badminton has a significant to Filipino players. This
game is slowly rising to popularize here in our country, it is sustaining and improving. This game
continues to survive in the country primarily because of the Filipino passion for the sport.
3. How does sports affect your health?
Answer: Physical activity stimulates healthy improvements because it offers me the equal
opportunities to engage in activities. Sports is essential in keeping my body active, it helps me
enhance my daily routine which is beneficial because it strengthens me physically and helps to
reduce stress as it brings positive energy. It also benefits my body as it provides maintenance to
my healthy weight and can possibly encourage me to leave the unhealthy lifestyle that I’ve used to.
Physical activities such as playing badminton can burn calories which can enhance my physical
appearance and make my body fit.
