INTERIOR INSPECTION:
• No obstructions on the dashboard or at my feet.
• Seat and mirrors have been adjusted.
• Handbrake applied, gear lever in neutral.
• Warning lights + gauges are working.
• Car is fitted with an automatic choke.
• All doors are locked.
• Seatbelts have no wear + tear (put it on).
• No extra play on the steering wheel.
PARKING OBSERVATIONS:
• Half observation (mirror + blind spot) to the side you are indicating to (always to the
side the poles are on).
• Indicate- to the side the poles are.

• Select appropriate gear (1 /reverse).
• Full observation- starting from the opposite side you are indicating to.

• 3 observation check, before turning your wheel (opposite side you are indicating to-
traffic lights).
ALLEY DOCKING
RIGHT SIDE-Reverse slowly whilst maintaining clutch control, when the pole reaches your
seatbelt/shoulder-lock the wheel to the right, look for 3 poles in your left side mirror (in a

straight line, once you see the bottom of the 3 pole, straighten your wheel. Brake with foot
brake and select neutral.
LEFT SIDE: Reverse slowly whilst maintaining clutch control, when the pole reaches your
seatbelt/shoulder-lock the wheel to the right, look for 3 poles in your right-side mirror (in a
rd
straight line, once you see the bottom of the 3 pole, straighten your wheel. Brake with foot
brake and select neutral.
NB: Please make sure to keep the car moving whilst reversing-as in -don’t allow your car t
stop or stall. (It increases your risk of ROLLING).
PARRALEL:
LEFT SIDE-Half observe and indicate left. Gear lever in reverse then full observation. Drop
your handbrake, reverse, and wait for first pole to show up in the centre f your small window
of your left blind spot.
Check your right blind spot and lock your steering to the left, check in your right rear-view
mirror for the three poles and after the third pole straighten your steering.
Wait for the first pole to show up on the centre of your left rear-view mirror and then lock
your steering to the right. Then wait for your car to be straight and brake to stop. Put
handbrake up then gear lever in neutral.
RIGHT SIDE-Half observe and indicate right. Gear lever in reverse then full observation.
Drop your handbrake, reverse, and wait for first pole to show up in the centre f your small
window of your left blind spot.
Check your left blind spot and lock your steering to the right, check in your left rear-view
mirror for the three poles and after the third pole straighten your steering.
Wait for the first pole to show up on the centre of your right rear-view mirror and then lock
your steering to the left. Then wait for your car to be straight and brake to stop. Put
handbrake up then gear lever in neutral.
3 POINT TURN:

1 Point- Park your car in the demarcated block. ½ observation to the right- indicator select

1 gear-obtain CLUTCH CONTROL-full observation-release handbrake.
Move forward a bit, lock wheel to the right, straighten wheel before reaching pavement stop.
Handbrake, neutral. (Please remove feet from pedals after each point).

2 Point- ½ observation to the left- indicate left-select reverse gear-
CLUTCH CONTROL-full observation release handbrake. Reverse whilst locking wheel to
the left, when your right-side mirror is in line with the broken/dotted line, straighten your
wheel & stop behind the broken line. LOOK OUT FOR THE PAVEMENT BEHIND YOU!
RD st
3 Point- ½ observation to the right-indicate right select 1 gear-physically in line with the
dotted line, lock wheel to the right, straighten & stop behind solid white line, hand break
neutral.
INCLINE START:
Proceed up hill, stop with the bonnet of your car behind the stop line/sign. Select 1st gear-
obtain (CLUTCH CONTROL)-take your time, full observation, drop brake when ready.
NB: Releasing the clutch prematurely whilst going over the hill can cause
jerking/observation. Accelerator is key!
ROAD OBSERVATION:
• Check mirrors every 5-8 seconds.
• Before passing through side roads or intersections, please check rear mirror-then side
road/ intersections from right to left @ a 45-degree angle.
• Please stop by amber traffic lights, provided it is safe to do so. (Always check
rearview).
• Red traffic lights are a must.
• Check pedestrian crossings.
FOUR-WAY STOPS:
• Handbrake, neutral, gear, clutch control, full observation (from right left).
• Remember if you are opposite side e.g. (if you are indicating left, start it from the
right).
• Do not cross any solid lines or painted islands.
• Look out for bus lanes.
• Always turn into the straight lane, unless directed otherwise.
• Watch your directional arrows.
• Always do an overtaking process, when passing stationary vehicles parked on the side
of the road.
• Look out for dogs, trolleys/bin peeps. They seem to pop out at every corner.

• Turns/corners only in 2 Gear @speed of no more than 25km/h.
• Speed limit of 60km, keep it just under.
• Listen to the examiner’s instructions carefully.
INTERSECTIONS:
This is where you need to be most vigilant, this will test your competency as a driver. It
requires multi-tasking and foresight. You never know when or what the next driver will do.
They often like taking a “gap” especially in front of leaners.
MERGING LANES:
Check ½ observation and indicate, merge when safe. If a vehicle is trying to pass you, don’t
increase your speed.
*You will be required to do at least one hand signal out of four-
(Right, Left, Slowdown, Stop). And one emergency stop-
(You have tow attempts if the first one is unsuccessful).
IMMEDIATE FAILS:
Rolling, Disobeying Examiner, Disobeying Road Rules/Signs, Crossing solid lines or bus
lanes, failing to stop for pedestrians, exceeding speed limit, exceeding penalty points.
