Most Essential Learning ● The learners should be able to explain ingestion, absorption,
Competencies (MELC) assimilation, and excretion (S8LT-IVa-13)
● The learners demonstrate an understanding of the digestive system
Content Standards and its interaction with the circulatory, respiratory, and excretory
systems in providing the body with nutrients for energy.
Performance Standards

B. Activity (15mins)
ACTIVITY: (By group)
‘WHO AM I?’
Directions:
● The students will go to their respective groups and do the activity,
WHO AM I? In this activity the students will answer the riddle and
arrange the image assigned to their group.
● Each group will be given a specific organ and will answer the
process questions.
● The students will write their answers in Manila paper provided by
the teacher.
● After the activity the teacher will choose 1 representative per group
to answer the questions in their activity. Two minutes will be
allotted to each group to explain their work.
Procedures:
● Read the riddle and arrange the puzzle to identify the answer.
● Collaborate with your group and answer the guide questions.
● After answering, post your work on the board.

GUIDE QUESTIONS FOR ACTIVITY :

Process Questions:
1. How did you identify the answer in your activity?
2. What is the content of the image? Please describe it.
3. What do you feel while doing the activity?

C. Analysis
GUIDE QUESTIONS FOR LESSON PROPER
1. How does the process of digestion begin, and where does it take
place?
2. Why do we have different organs in the digestive system and what
roles do they play in the process of digestion?
3. How do the various organs within the digestive system collaborate
to ensure effective digestion, absorption, and elimination of
nutrients, and how do their respective functions contribute to
overall digestive efficiency.
D. Abstraction
(20mins) HUMAN DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
● The function of the digestive system is digestion, the breakdown of
organic compounds into their simple forms for use by the cells.
● The digestive system of the human body comprises a group of
organs that work together in converting food into energy and other
basic nutrients to power the body.
ORGANS IN DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
A. INGESTION- is the first process that happens in the digestive
system. It is the journey of taking in food or any substance into the
body through the mouth.
● Mouth
B. DIGESTION - is the second process involved in the digestive
system. It is the process that involves breakdown of large food
molecules into smaller molecules for easy absorption of the cells.
● Teeth
● Tongue
● Esophagus
● Stomach
● Liver
● Pancreas
● Small intestine
C. ABSORPTION - is the third process that happens in the digestive
system. It occurs mostly in the small intestine where several
digestive juices, pancreatic juice, and bile aid in the chemical
digestion of food.
● Villi
D. ASSIMILATION- is the fourth process that occurs in the digestive
system. It is the movement of digested food nutrients into the blood
vessels of the small intestine through diffusion and use of nutrients
into the body cells through the microvilli.
● Microvilli
● Large intestine
E. EGESTION - is the last process that occurs in the digestive system.
It is the release of undigested food collected in the rectum called
feces and pushed out of the body through the anus by defecation.
FIVE PROCESS OF DIGESTION

TRIVIA:
● Did you know that the Large intestine produces Antibodies
that help us boast our immunity?
● When your face becomes red due to blushing the lining of
your stomach becomes red too!
● Stomach Acid Is Strong Enough To Burn Skin.
E. Application (5mins)
GIVE YOUR IDEA
Imagine you've just finished eating a big meal of spaghetti and meatballs.
Describe what happens to the food in your tummy after you swallow it.
What do you think your tummy does to help break down the food so your
body can use it for energy?
V. EVALUATION(5mins)
TRUE OR FALSE (Answers only)
Directions:
● Read the statements carefully. Write True if the statement is
correct and False if the statement is incorrect. Write your answer in
1/4 sheet of paper. Each question is answerable within 25 seconds
only.
1. Our food’s journey starts in our mouth, travels through our
esophagus, stomach, and intestines, and then leaves
through the anus.
2. Tongue is a long tube that carries food from the mouth to
the stomach.
3. Liver is a stretchy J- shape bag that squishes and mixes the
food.
4. The digestive system plays an important role in breaking
down our food.
5. The function of the digestive system is digestion.
ANSWER:
1. True
2. False
3. False
4. True
5. True
VI. AGREEMENT
Directions: (Copy and answer)
● In your notebook answer the following questions. Number to order
the process of digestion (from 1 to 5). Pass it tomorrow at our class
time 8:30am.
______ 1. The food goes down the esophagus and enters the stomach.
______ 2. Finally, the large intestine water is absorbed. Feces are
eliminated from our body.
______ 3. In the stomach the digestion starts.
______ 4. Next, the food goes into the small intestine. Here nutrients are
absorbed.
______ 5. First, we chew the food in the mouth with our teeth.
