Due date: Tuesday, Dec 12th, before 5:30 pm.

Goal:
I can write about ingredients, recipes and meals (c 10 meta 2)
I can write about the past (meta from chapters 7-9)
I can give instructions in informal settings (c 10 meta 5)
I can present information, concepts and ideas about food in Ecuador and the United States (c
10 meta 6)

Context and Content:


This semester you met an exchange student from Guayaquil, Ecuador and have become friends.
In the past you’ve exchanged a lot of cultural information about things like holidays and
celebrations and popular sporting events. But, now you are both interested in sharing information
about food culture in your respective countries. As you prepare to depart from IWU, write a
letter to your friend who has returned to Ecuador. In it, describe the following:
1. food from a Thanksgiving meal (or from another holiday or special meal). Describe the
table at a holiday meal like Thanksgiving or another special occasion. Be sure to include
details of at least three different dishes and their ingredients. Also include a special
memory from one of these past holiday meals.
2. Then, select one of your favorite dishes or meals and write out the recipe in Spanish to
share with your friend. You will need to use informal commands for the instructions of
how to make the dish/meal. Be sure to include at least 5 different verbs using informal
commands.
3. Finish the letter by asking about food in your friend’s family. Draw information from what
you have learned in chapter 10 to ask your friend meaningful questions about special
Ecuadorian dishes and draw comparisons between typical American dishes and typical
Ecuadorian dishes.
¡Ojo! Although it is not necessary, if you do research and cite external sources, be sure to include
them after the letter in a “Works cited” section.

Format:
1) Use the Google doc for the entire writing process. If you do not, the work will not be
graded and you will receive a “0”. Name the file appropriately with topic and your
own name. Please no copying and pasting from another source.
2) Include your name and assignment on one line at the top left of the document, (i.e.
Name, Proyecto formal escrito #3).
3) Use Arial, 11-point font, 1.5 spacing, 1” margins
4) Use a traditional letter format, opening with Querido/a and the student’s name, and
closing with a special sign, perhaps, “Hasta enero,” and sign your name.
5) Use correct spelling, accent marks/tildes, divide into paragraphs, 0 pt paragraph
spacing.
