Introduction

Welcome the UoPeople Master of Education Portfolio. As a Master of Education student, you are required to create a portfolio that
you start in your very first class and submit near the end of the program. You’ll contribute a minimum of three artefacts to your
portfolio in every class you take (although you can add more rows to save more if you wish). At the end of your portfolio, you will
also complete a Philosophy of Teaching Statement. This allows you to save useful readings and reflect on previous work when
you’re teaching so that you can continue to draw on what you learned.

An example has been included at the beginning of this guide to help illustrate how artefacts need to be formatted. All materials
need a topic, a way for the instructor to review the resource (such as a link), a summary, and tags to help indicate how the
resource can be used later. By following this template and consistently gathering pertinent materials, you'll not only enhance your
understanding of the course material but also streamline the process of assembling a comprehensive and well-organized portfolio.

NOTE: Students should select the artefacts they wish to add to their portfolio. However, the following must be included:

1. Artefact related to developmentally appropriate curricula

2. Artefact related to learning environments and diversity of learners
3. Lesson Plan (any topic)
4. Artefact related to developmental instructional across various ages*
5. Artefact related to pedagogical practices and resiliency**

*required for elementary specialization

**required for secondary specialization

Philosophy of Teaching Statement

I am a person of a diverse mix when it comes to educational pursuits. It seems that humanism and progressivism have had the most impact on my

educational philosophy. As a teacher, I see learning from a human development viewpoint. Everyone should strive to be their best selves at all times,

regardless of their circumstances. I believe that people are inherently inquisitive. In a supportive and loving environment, all of this will take place. The

student should be the primary focus of education, not the subject matter. Besides learning objectives, it is essential to evaluate the mix of emotions, ideas,

and behaviors that come from the experience.

My educational philosophy is informed by how I have come to learn, how I learn, and how I would love to be taught. No wonder, Professor Neil

Haave said “what I have come to realize is that how we learn can inform how we teach and perhaps help us bridge the development of students from a

young to adult learning approach” (Haave, 2014). The M.E.D program has opened me up to global educational issues and more importantly to problems

around the world. In my country Morocco, for example, I have had to research and see key areas of concern in the educational sector in my country. No

wonder I have written more as to how it concerns my country.

In the same respect, my teaching philosophy aligns with the various teaching methods we have seen throughout the Med program, it cut across the

following; inquiry, experimentation, fieldwork, group work/jigsaw-groups, projects, skills, presentation, etc.

Reflecting on my beliefs and practice, I subscribe to progressivism and social-reconstructionism because the philosophies resonate with me and my

learning style.
Progressivism and social reconstruction are two major educational philosophies that I wish my teachers and lecturers in the universities knew and

practiced. Learning would have been more fun and tailored to help me achieve more. I can’t reproduce what I don’t understand and that was the pain of

memorization for me. I remember going through difficulty a lot in the university, because of some lecturers who would like to be given back word for

word (garbage in garbage out). I, however, do best in a few classes that my teachers were flexible and we had more experiments, group projects, and

presentations. Those were my best classes and learning this now points me to that direction.

I have learned that technology plays a vital role in student’s educations; it helps students interact with reading materials in new and different ways.

For example, students can use online resources to listen to audio-books, watch videos and take interactive quizzes. These activities help students engage

with reading materials more meaningfully (Audible,n.d). All the courses in the Med program were interesting and insightful and helped me gain more

insight on how to work with students in my classroom using technology. Especially teaching an interdisciplinary unit which greatly benefit student

learning, it builds deepen understanding for student learning. As most curriculum are made in such a way that some of the topics of courses aligned and

interconnected with one another but teachers teaches these topic/ course independently. From the courses I learnt that interconnectedness of disciplines

have great impact on student learning and enrich as well as broaden their understanding and knowledge.
