ESL Acronym
This resource has been made for the purpose of teaching English language
learners. We
know that students can be learning English in many different places, in
many different ways and at age, so we try to keep these resources as
general as possible.
There are many acronyms associated with English language teaching.
These include (but are not limited to) ELT, TEFL, EFL, ELL, EAL and ESOL.
While the term ESL may not fully represent the linguistic backgrounds of all
students, it is the most widely recognised term for English language
teaching globally. Therefore, we use the term ‘ESL’ in the names of our
resources to make them easy to find but they are suitable for any student
learning to speak English.
Animations
This resource has been designed with animations on each slide to make it as fun and
engaging as possible. To view the content in the correct formatting, please view the

Grammar Time

In the last two lessons, we learned that when we

talk about routines in English, we use the present
simple.
The present simple is a noun or pronoun used with the
base form of a verb.

I cook. I wash my face.

Grammar Time

When we ask questions, we add a word to the

sentence and sometimes change other words. What
words are added below?
I wash my face. Do you wash your face?

I watch TV. Do you watch TV?

He feeds his dog. Does he feed his dog?

They do their makeup. Do they do their

makeup?
Grammar Time

When we are asking someone about their routines,

we need to change some of the words to match.

I play with my children.

Do you play with your children?

Other times, it’s more simple.

I eat breakfast.

Do you eat breakfast?

Grammar Time

When we use the present simple to ask questions,

we move the ‘s’ if it’s for one person and not with
‘you’.
She plays with her children.

Does she play with her children?

If it is two or more people, nothing changes. You just

add ‘do’.
They play with their children.

Do they play with their children?

Grammar Time

Answers match the questions.

Do you play games?

Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.

Does he play games?

Yes, he does. / No, he doesn’t.
