PART A – Micro-Project Proposal

FOR Ist TO 4 th semester

TYPES OF FORCES
1.0 Brief Introduction/Rational
The depletion of natural resources refers to the consumption of finite resources such as
fossil fuels, minerals, water, and forests at a rate faster than they can be replenished naturally.
This overuse and exploitation threaten the sustainability of ecosystems, disrupt ecological
balance, and can lead to environmental degradation, habitat loss, and even extinction of species.
Human activities, including industrialization, deforestation, overfishing, and urbanization, are
major contributors to this phenomenon, posing significant challenges to global sustainability
and necessitating urgent conservation efforts and sustainable resource management practices.
2.0 Aim of the Micro-Project
The aim of studying the depletion of natural resources can be summarized in two
points:

1. Understanding Impact: To comprehend the extent to which human activities are

depleting natural resources and the consequences of such depletion on
ecosystems, biodiversity, and human well-being.
2. Promoting Sustainability: To promote awareness, policies, and practices that
mitigate resource depletion, conserve natural resources, and foster sustainable
use to ensure the long-term health of ecosystems and support future
generations.

3.0 Intended Course Outcomes

The theory, practical experiences and relevant soft skills associated with this
course are to be taught and implemented, so that the student demonstrates the following
industry oriented

COs associated with the above mentioned competency:

a. Develop Public awareness about environment

b. Select alternative energy resources for Engineering Practice
c. Conserve Ecosystem and Biodiversity
d. Apply techniques to reduce Environmental Pollution
e. Manage social issues and Environmental Ethics as lifelong learning
4.0 Literature Review
Natural resource depletion is a critical issue impacting sustainable development and human
well-being. Studies emphasize the importance of accounting for natural resource depletion in economic
planning to ensure long-term sustainability . The depletion of resources like minerals, water, and
forests has significant implications for economic growth and environmental stability.
Research highlights that continuous depletion of natural resources poses challenges to
ecosystems and human societies.
Moreover, the mismanagement of natural resources can lead to severe consequences for
sustainable development, especially in developing countries. The impact of renewable energy
consumption on environmental degradation in relation to natural resource depletion has been
a subject of investigation, emphasizing the need for sustainable resource management
practices.

4.0 Proposed Methodology

Proposed Methodology on Natural Resource Depletion
To address the challenges of natural resource depletion, a comprehensive methodology
integrating environmental and social sciences is essential. The following proposed
methodology draws insights from existing research:
a. Integrated Approach: Implement an integrated methodological approach
that combines environmental and social sciences to tackle the
complexities of natural resource management effectively.
b. Community Involvement: Emphasize community participation in policy
setting and program implementation to ensure sustainable resource
management practices.
c. Sustainable Development Policies: Develop prospective models like the
one mentioned in the study to monitor and inform sustainable
development policies concerning natural resource depletion.
d. Resource Accounting: Utilize natural resource accounting to assess
environmental protection expenditures, measure health costs related to
environmental degradation, and evaluate alternative development
strategies with a focus on sustainable economic activity.
e. Fairness and Sustainability: Consider frameworks like Hartwick’s Rule
that interpret sustainability as non-declining utility/consumption,
ensuring fairness in resource utilization for long-term sustainability.
