1. A simply supported prismatic beam AB carries a uniform distributed load of 6
intensity w over its span l. Develop the equation of the elastic line and find
the maximum deflection δ at the middle of the span.
2. Using Moment Area Method, determine the deflection δ and slope  at the free 6
end of a cantilever carrying a concentrated load P at the free end.

1. Derive the equation defining the deflection curve of a uniformly loaded canti- 6
lever beam. From this, evaluate the deflection δ at the free end.
2. A beam AB of length L, hinged at the ends, carries a couple (moment) M at a 6

tively from the left end. Calculate:
(i) the deflection under each load,

Take: E = 200 GN/m2 and I = 118 × 10 4 m4.

1. A freely supported beam of span L carries a central load W. The sectional area 10
of the beam is so designed that the moment of inertia of the section increases

1. A simple supported beam has a flexural rigidity of 24 MN/m2 and is loaded as 10
shown in Fig. 1. Determine the deflections at mid-span.

2. A beam of length L and flexural rigidity EI is fixed at both ends at the same 10
level and carries a udl of intensity per unit length over whole span. Obtain
expressions for maximum defection.

1. A beam, simply supported at ends A and B is loaded with two point loads of 60 10
kN and 50 kN at distance 1 metre and 3 metre respectively from end A. De-
termine the position and magnitude of maximum deflection.
