Prospectus for admission to the Four-Year Undergraduate Programmes (FYUGP) under the
Credit and Semester System(CSS) in the University of Kerala for the academic year 2023-2024,
as approved by the University of Kerala

About the programme

TheFour-Year Undergraduate Programmes (FYUGP) is launched in recognition of the


requirement to strengthen undergraduate education. The curricula of the programme is
designed to equip students with the knowledge base, intellectual abilities, multidisciplinary
perspectives, flexible skill sets, basic expertise, social commitment and research aptitude that
will make them responsible citizens in a knowledge society and offer them multiple
opportunities in research and employment.

Eligibility for A Pass in Higher Secondary Examination of the State or an
Admission Examination accepted by the University shall be considered as

Calculation of Index The total marks in Higher Secondary or equivalent examination plus the
Marks average of the marks scored by the candidate for Political Science,
Economics and History shall be taken as the index mark for ranking
purpose.

Age limit The maximum age limit for admission to the UG programmes shall be

BA Hons.(Politics & International Relations/ Economics/ History) with research is a


four year UG programme to be offered by the University of Kerala commencing from the
academic year 2023-24.

The programme offers major in Politics & International Relations/ Economics/ History
with focus on research. The programme will have two Broad Pathways, (a) 3 year UG Degree
and (b) 4 year UG Degree (Honours) with Research. The course will have four major
components- (1) Foundation Courses grouped into 4 major baskets as Ability Enhancement
courses (AEC), Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), Value Addition Courses (VAC) and
Multidisciplinary Courses (MDC), (2) Discipline Specific Major (3) Discipline Specific
Minor/Multidisciplinary and (4) Research Component with dissertation, internship and field
surveys.
Students who choose to exit after 3 years shall be awarded UG Degree in their
respective Major Discipline- Politics and International Relations or Economics or History-
after the successful completion of the required minimum number of Courses and Credits. The
candidates with a CGPA of 7.5 or above in the previous six semesters of the programme are
eligible to join the Honours Programme with Research.
UG Honours Degree with research in the Major Discipline shall be awarded to
those who complete the programme with specific number of Courses Credits in their major
discipline. The programme will be conducted by the Centre for Under Graduate Studies,
University of Kerala located at Kariavattom Campus.
The Curriculum shall be in accordance with the Curriculum Framework and Academic
Regulations of the University of Kerala.The intake of the Programmeis 30 students.The
candidates for the programme commencing in the academic year 2023-24, shall be admitted
based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examinations,with necessary
normalization.The candidates should be admitted by following the existing reservation system
prevailing in the University teaching departments.The total marks in Higher Secondary or
equivalent examination plus the average of the marks scored bythe candidate for Political
Science, Economics and History shall be taken as the index mark forranking purpose.

Age limit

The maximum age limit for admission to the FYUG Programme shall be as follows as on
1stJune of the academic year.

For General/ SEBC candidates - 23 years

For SC/ST candidates - 25 years.


2. RESERVATION OF SEATS
Types of Reservations: Seats will be reserved for the following categories
a. Mandatory Reservation ;
b. Special Reservation

3.1.1 Mandatory Reservation:The seats will be distributed as per the U.O (MS)
No.107/08/H.Edn. dated 30.8.08 and corresponding U.O AcB/I/Admns BC/2008 dated
20.9.2008. To ensure the eligible percentage of reservation for all communities, the
rotation of category is done with seat matrix every year.After allotting seats as per seat
matrix, the remaining fraction (positive/negative) of each year will be carried over to the
next year.

Lists of eligible communities for reservation are given in Annexures II, III, IV and V
*Candidates who enjoy communal reservation such as SEBC, SC/ST, who have BPL
endorsement in the Ration Card are not eligible for EWS reservations. Only candidates
belonging to Forward Communities, who are Economically Backward, are eligible for EWS
reservations. Such candidates must produce EWS certificate from the Village
Officer/Revenue Authority concerned.

Special Reservation for Foreign, Non-Kerala, Persons with Disabilities (PWD), Sports
Persons, Transgender, Inmates of Govrenment Children’s Home
Candidates seeking admisson under any of the above special reservation category should
register online. The candidates should also submit hard copy of online application along
with the copy of Certificates to CSS. If any discrepancy is noted during the verification of
original certificates, the candidate shall not be considered for admission.

There shall be super-numerary seats for


(a) One candidate who is in the rank list and who is not a native of Kerala, in case no
such student has secured admission in the programme in the concerned year
through the rank list.
(b) One foreign candidate eligible as per relevant regulations for foreign students.
(c) Persons with Disabilities (PWD): One student with disability of 40% or above
As per Clause2 (t), Chapter I of the Persons with Disabilities Act 1995, “Person with
disability” means a person suffering from not less than 40% of any disability as
certified by a Medical Board constituted for this purpose. Candidates who have a
minimum of 40% disability alone shall be eligible to apply for this quota.

Candidates seeking admission under PWD category should attach “Certificate of
disability, issued not earlier than 12 months prior to the admission, by the District
Medical Board or bodies of higher status, certifying the degree of percentage of
disability.
 The selection of candidates under this category will be based on
the rank inthe entrance merit list and not on the basis of the
degree of disability.
 No reservation of seats is allowed for blind candidates for Science
subjects.
(d) Sports Quota: One seat shall be given for sports persons over and above the
sanctioned strength. Admission to such seats shall be made as per the
procedure for admission under sports quota. If the required number of sports
persons is not available, the seats should be kept vacant and shall not be filled
by other candidates.
(e) Transgender,
One seat shall be created over and above the sanctioned strength exclusively
for admitting Transgender students. (G.O.(Ms)No.153/2018 HEdn dated
03.07.2018). Such candidates should submit transgender identity card issued by
the State Government at the time of admission.

(f) Inmates of Govrenment Children’s Home


One seat shall be created over and above the sanctioned strength for Inmates
of Government Children”s Home and Establishments which functions as per
Juvenile Justice Act. In the event of non applicants from the above
establishments, the applications of candidates from approved Children”s
Homes duly recommended by the District Social Welfare Officer shall be
considered. (U.O.No. Ac B1/055682/2012 dated 30.04.2013)

Norms for Admission to the Seats Reserved under Sports Quota.

If the required numbers of sports persons are not available, the seats should be
kept vacant and shall not be filled by other candidates.

General Guidelines for admission under Sports Quota


i) The registration for Sports Quota admission shall be effected in online mode only.
ii) The Candidates who seek admission under sports quota should apply online within the prescribed time.
iii) The achievement certificate received before the closure of registration of FYUG Programmes
will only be considered for ranking in sports quota admissions.
iv) For securing admission to FYUG programmes under Sports Quota,, the performance of the
candidate during the preceding two years/ Higher Secondary Level shall only be
considered.
v) For filling up the seats reserved under Sports quota, hierarchy of preference shall be given as
per the norms/guidelines formulated by the University in addition to satisfying his /her
academic eligibility.
vi) When the candidates fulfil minimum academic eligibility, the academic merit shall not be
preferred over sports merit in sports quota reservation seats except in the case of a tie in the
sports merit.
vii) The candidates who wish to apply under sports quota should opt “Sports – Yes” during online
registration. They need to select the level of achievement in the respective field in the website.
viii) University will then conduct centralized verification. Provisional Rank list will be published in
the after the verification.
ix) The admission will be effected based on this ranked list. Verification of original certificates
will be done at the time of Admission.

Weightage / Deduction of Marks

In assessing merit, marks will be awarded for extracurricular activities like NCC, NSS Student
Police Cadet (SPC) and Scout & Guides of the students and also to Ex-servicemen / widows or
children of Jawans and Ex-servicemen.
These marks will be added to the marks obtained for the qualifying examination for preparing the rank
list. The weightage of bonus marks shall be added to the marks scored by the candidate either to make
him/her eligible for admission to a Programme or for ranking purposes to those who are otherwise
eligible for admission. In the case of candidates who get the eligibility by this bonus marks, their
ranking mark will be the sum of scored marks and the bonus marks.
Weightage of marks for NCC / NSS / SPC/ Scout & Guides certificate holders
A weightage of 15 marks will be given to NCC / NSS / SPC (Student Police Cadet)/ Scout &
Guides certificate holders for the purpose of ranking. The candidates who have attended
NSS / NCC / SPC/ Scout & Guides during the academic year of the qualifying
examinations ie, plus two only will be eligible for the bonus mark.
Note:
a) In respect of candidates who want to avail bonus marks for NCC, the marks will be
awarded on the basis of NCC Weightage Certificates signed by the Director and issued by
the Directorate of NCC to the candidates who have secured at least 75% of attendance after
having participated in its activities during the course of study immediately preceding the
course for which admission is sought.
b) For awarding bonus marks to NSS participants, the basis will be NSS certificates signed by
the Competent Authority.
c) For awarding bonus mark to SPC, the basis will be the certificates signed by the
Competent Authority
d) For awarding bonus mark to Scout and Guides, the certificate signed by the Competent
Authorityshall be submitted.(Only Rajyapuraskar & Nanmamudra Certificates are
accepted).
e) The benefit of bonus marks for purposes of admission can be earned by the candidates only
under any one category (either NSS or NCC or SPC or Scout and Guides).

Weightage of marks for Ex-servicemen/ widows or children of Jawans and Ex-


servicemen
A weightage of 15 marks will be given to the Ex-servicemen / widows or children of Jawans and Ex-
servicemen for admission. (U.O. No. Ac.B.3/Misc./73 dated 30-10-1974). (Academic Council dated
28- 08-1974). (Applicable to Army/Navy/Airforce only. Not applicable to paramilitary
forces/CRPF/GREF/Coast Guard etc.)

To avail the weightage of bonus mark under the category “Ex-servicemen / widows or
children of Jawans and Ex-servicemen”, the candidates should invariably produce an
attested copy of certificate issued not earlier than six months from the last date of
submission of application, from the military authorities or State/Zilla Sainik Welfare
Officer to the effect that he/she is the son/daughter/widow of a Jawan / Ex-service
man or an Ex-service man himself/herself.

Deduction / Loosing of marks for subsequent appearances

Candidates will lose 10 marks from the total ranking marks for each additional appearance he/she
has taken for completing the qualifying examination.

Resolving of tie

In the case of tie of index marks, the following will be considered
