Term Project

Background: A highway project connecting two significant urban centers

necessitates the concurrent installation of a transmission electrical line
to power the lighting and service three rural areas situated along the
highway. The proposed highway spans a distance of 500 kilometers
and incorporates three bridges that will serve as entry and exit points
for the highway traffic.

Objective Design of two projects simultaneously to accomplish the task.

• Civil project: includes the implementation of the highway and three
bridges.
• Electrical project: includes the implementation of the transmission
line and three distribution grids.

• Switchgear and Breaker Testing

Instruction: 1. Form a group of 4 to 5 student (participate in blackboard groups).

2. Choose either civil or electrical engineering project.
3. Pick 5 to 7 activities given in the tables 1, and 2, to perform your
project (consider the logical sequence in which they should be
performed).
4. Perform a time scheduling based on Program Evaluation Review
Technique (PERT) to obtain the normal distribution curve of the
project using the guides given in Table 3.

Submission 1. A report that includes information required in phase 1 and 2.

on 2. A presentation slide of the project.

Table 3: guide for the project time scheduling using PERT

Phase 1: A) Define the activities based on the project related to your area of
specialties.
B) Sequence the activates based on dependency.
C) Give three estimates for each activity including:
a. Optimistic Performance Time (a)
b. Most Likely Time (m)
c. Pessimistic Performance Time (b)
D) Find the mean (te), standard deviation (𝜎! ), and variance (𝑣! )
Note: At the end of this stage, you might be able to fill up the following table
Activity Activity Depends Time in Weeks Statistics
Code on a m b te 𝜎! 𝑣!

Phase 2: A) For each activity organize the information as following format and
Sketch Activity on node (AON)

ES Floating EF
time
Activity code
LS Mean time (te) LF
variance (𝒗𝒕 )
B) Find the total mean time of project duration (𝑇# ) and the project
standard deviation (𝜎! ).
C) Obtain the normal distribution curve by plugging those values in the
following curve.
