Stress its Effect on the Academic Performance of Students at Bonifacio V. Romero High
School
INTRODUCTION
This study illustrates the stress that can affect a student's energy level, concentration,
dependability, mental ability, and optimism, hindering academic performance. Depression has
also been linked to dropping out of school. In simple terms, symptoms of severe stress may lead
to low academic self-efficacy, but they can also be a consequence of low academic self-efficacy.
The same applies to the association between symptoms of severe stress and poor study
progress.
Academic stress can reduce motivation, hinder academic achievement, and lead to increased
college dropout rates (Pascoe et al., 2020). Academic stress has also been shown to negatively
impact mental health in students (Li and Lin, 2003; Eisenberg et al., 2009; Green et al., 2021).
RATIONALE
Stress seems like it should be typical, so it’s easy to dismiss it. You may even get down on
yourself because you feel like you should handle it better. But research shows that feeling
overwhelming school-related stress actually reduces your motivation to do the work, impacts
your overall academic achievement, and increases your odds of dropping out. Stress can also
cause health problems such as depression, poor sleep, substance abuse, and anxiety.
LITERATURE REVIEW
FOREIGN
The purpose of this study was to investigate the many stress-related factors and how they
impact academic performance in Lusaka high school students. It also aims to fill in knowledge
gaps on the subject so that high school students may integrate different strategies to cope or
control stress when they are overwhelmed. According to M. Hachintu (2020). The word stress
brings about the thoughts of depression, anxiety and other potentially life-threatening conditions
in the mind of an individual. Everybody experiences stress at some point in their lives, and it is a
necessary component of a student's existence because it negatively affects their emotional
health, their academic performance, and their physical health. Students experience stress due
to a variety of circumstances. These include interactions with loved ones and friends, tests and
deadlines, ineffective time management, social media, financial instability, ideas about a
potential future profession, sadness, anxiety, and many other things.
(M Saqib, 2018) The topic at hand is titled Impact of stress on student academic performance
at second-year college level. This study's primary goals are to investigate the effects of stress
on the academic performance of the students. Academic performance in students is significantly
impacted by stress. This study was intended to concentrate on the detrimental effects on
students' academic performance. The sort of stress associated with students' academic
performance was one of the study's primary goals. secondly, to assess how stress affects
students' academic performance; pupils; finally, distinguish the effects of stress on both groups'
academic performance. pupils by gender.
LOCAL
According to R. Arcilla (2019). Students at Bagong Silang High School exhibit signs of stress,
which has an impact on their academic performance, according to the researchers. As a result,
they may choose not to participate in class, isolate themselves from their peers, or receive a
poor mark. As a student, it has a significant impact on their academic performance. A student
can succeed and earn excellent grades in the class by giving a solid performance in the
classroom. However, stress has a negative impact on a student's academic performance. Arcilla
claims that being under stress can have a variety of effects, including a student's academic
performance declining or failing, as well as other outcomes like absenteeism from class, conflict
with peers, and receiving a poor mark.
METHODOLOGY
INTRODUCTION
This chapter presents the discussions of the methods and procedures used in the study. It
includes the research design, research locale, and the sampling method.
RESEARCH DESIGN
Descriptive research design is a type of research design that aims to systematically obtain
information to describe a phenomenon, situation, or population. More specifically, it helps
answer the what, when, where, and how questions regarding the research problem rather than
the why. To serve this objective, the researchers used a descriptive method of research since it
involves collecting data to describe what is the effect of stress on the Academic Performance of
Grade 11 Students. The descriptive research in this part of the study will determine the different
methods of research and types of questions to be able to recommend the suitable method for
the students in their academic performance about stress. This study will investigate the effect of
stress on the academic performance of grade 11 students.
RESEARCH LOCALE
The study will be carried out at Bonifacio V. Romero High School, in Pulung Cacutud Angeles
City, Philippines.
SAMPLING METHOD
A subset of a population is chosen at random in a basic random sampling. Using this sampling
technique, every member of the population has an exact equal probability of being chosen. This
technique just involves one random selection and requires little prior population knowledge,
making it the easiest probability sampling technique. Any research conducted with this sample
should have a high level of internal and external validity and be less likely to be affected by
biases in the research process, such as sampling bias and selection bias (Thomas, 2020)
