1. GENERAL
This clause is applicable for Khamis South SS & KKAB SS

DESCRIPTION

1.1 INTRODUCTION:
This document covers the protection requirements for the installation of new 132kV U/G
cable between Khamis south SS & KKAB SS and its associated protection modifications
as a result of utilizing of existing bay of 132kV at Khamis south SS and extension of
existing 132kV bay at KKAB SS covering all primary equipment devices as described in
letter 22-103-30401001 dated September 5, 2022 (Safar 9, 1444).
The main purpose of this PR is to provide the necessary guidance for the vender helping
them to meet the essential NATIONAL GRID SA projects requirement. It is necessary to
read it with SAS appendix & communication requirements appendix of subject PTS; all
relays shall be supplied from the latest list of NATIONAL GRID SA unified list of approved

Finally, based on the soil Resistivity pattern and other Geotechnical considerations
and involved standards, the T/L contractor shall provide equivalent single soil
Resistivity value for use with HV and EHV fault calculations, suggested by an
approved 'Independent Agency'.

all T/L lines based on physical line construction using 'Equivalent Soil Resistivity'.

without local circuit breakers which is depending on signaling equipment to provide
remote protection shall have two segregated communication facilities to achieve a

This document details the basic protection requirement for 132kV U/G feeder protection.

Two numerical protection IED boxes must be from different manufacture shall be used
with multiple protection functions, included in the same protection IED’s unit.

3. TRIPPING CIRCUITS :

 All function of the First main protections (BOX-1), when operates shall trip coil #1.
 All function of the second main protections (BOX-2) when operates shall trip coil #2.
 Both IED’s shall be provided with trip circuit supervision such that the monitoring of
the trip circuits is available whether the breaker is open or closed and whether the

signal is present or not, the trip circuit supervision feature to be built in the IED’s.
 Trip circuit failure should be locally and remotely alarmed.
 Trip circuit breaker failure 86CBF should be save TC 1 & TC 2 of CB.

 Trip relays for bus bar protection shall be covered under the relevant specification.
