Plugs and Bearings
On some engines equipped with the new hydraulically tightened "M56" intermediate gear
wheel the plug A has loosened, see figure below. This has reduced the oil flow to the
bearings and caused wear of the bearings.
All engines delivered from our factory before February, 1993 should be checked regarding
the plugs and the bearings.
• If the plugs are loose they should be refitted and locked with Loctite 270.
• The bearings should be changed to the new type, stamped "3V33A01 04",
which was introduced in February, 1993. Please note the new positioning
of the bearings according to the Operating Instruction 3213Q008.
Engines delivered from our factory later than February, 1993 are equipped with the new
type of bearings and the locking is properly done.
Distribution: For owners of Wartsila VASA 32 diesel engines equipped with hydraulically tightened intermediate gear wheels (M56).
Validity: Until further notice.

Extension shaft for intermediate gear wheels (Part No.: 131 021)
To improve the oil flow to the bearings, it is recommended that the following modifications
are done according to figure below:
• the bore of the radial holes is increased from 05 mm to 07 mm.
• the number of holes is increased from four to eight holes.
Check and clean the holes carefully and remove sharp edges.
