Welcome to Noah Lovelock, Graces little brother, to Room 8. Noah is our last New Entrant for the year and only has a few days at school then a lovely long holiday. As the final full week of the 2011 school year comes to a crescendo I have had the privilege of reading all your children's reports. They give a picture into the learning life of school and are complete when we sit down early in Term 1 one on one with you and your child at goal setting conferences. There is so much more to educating children than administering a narrow assessment every now and then. Education is not a consumable. It is not a commodity. It is a learning relationship. Lately I
have been reading a book titled 'Whats the Point of School Rediscovering the Heart of Education, by Guy Claxtons. His begins his book by writing, 'The purpose of education is to prepare young people for the future. Schools should be helping young people develop the capacities they will need to thrive. What they need, and want, is the confidence to talk to strangers, to try things out, to handle tricky situations, to stand up for themselves, to ask for help, to think new thoughts.' The key to develop such qualities are gained by students working in groups researching engaging projects involving skills of collaboration, discussion and attitudes of self organisation. Our recent celebrations
of this terms learning by both the junior and senior teams showcased just that. It was amazing to see our children sharing their learning experiences - all based on solid foundation work which gives the opportunity to develop those all important life skills. This Thursday night is another chance to acknowledge a step change for our Year 6 students as they get ready to head off to their respective high schools. I look forward to seeing you there to celebrate with them and our overall school year. Regards

Week 8 Term 4
Room 1 wish you all a great holiday. We will be bringing 10 books home to enjoy and to read often to maintain our reading skills. Please collect these up at the end of the holidays and return them to your new classroom. Homework books, published story books and any other books sent home can stay at home. If there are any books still to use I have forwarded them on to the next teacher. We are looking forward to our picnic on Friday and hope this fine weather continues well into the summer break. I have had a fantastic journey with your children this year and the highlight for me has been seeing the progress and high achievements in so many areas. Your support with homework has been such a huge part of this achievement - thank you and happy holidays. Room 2 is busy enjoying making some christmas things this week and enjoying our end of year celebrations. We are looking forward to our pyjama disco party on Thursday and the teddy bears picnic on Friday. There will be reading books sent home over the holidays. Reading a little and often will help maintain the super progress all the children have made this year. Have a merry, merry christmas and a happy holiday! Room 3 is really excited about our play house. If you haven't been in to see it come in and have a look, it's very big. As the long holidays approach it is a good time to mention the need for a little reading and maths practice every few days. A little time spent on this makes a big difference at the start of next year. I have to say a big thank you to the parents who have helped in the class this year the help has been much appreciated. I hope everyone has great holiday break so that you can enjoy your wonderful children. Merry Christmas. Room 4 It has been a great year of learning and team building in Room 4. I appreciate your support, thank you. As we tidy up for the end of the year it would be helpful if you could please send a plastic bag along to school for your child to bring their books home in. We are looking forward to our picnic in the park on Friday. This year seems to have flown by. Here are some of our thoughts about it : Swimming was fun. Thanks for the amazing year, Ive loved my time back at Myross Bush. This is a great school which is moving forward in so many ways. I will miss all of the students and staff. Here are some one liners from our Arts Festival Day yesterday: I really liked pulling the paper off the mural Millie The mural looks fantastic, I like the bright colours Greer I was really nervous about singing the song in front of everyone Hannah Room 7 What a great way to end the term and the year with an 'Arts Festival'. All children showed their talents in the 4 Art areas, and really impressed our hot audience! This week we have been finishing off our great learning in class with some still asking to be tested on their spelling today!!! Please keep looking at home for the missing Literature Circle books...a prize if you find them. Have a great holiday everyone. Enjoy the sun and slip, slop, slap Room 8 Andrew - We created a magnificent mural about what represents Myross Bush School. It has definitely brightened up the Activity Centre. Emma - I liked our inquiry about wearable arts because I got to wear a dress that I made. I learned that you have to make it properly or else it falls apart. We made sure we measured and made it fit you properly. Mr Herring. We've had a great last week so far! It would be fantastic to see as many parents as possible joining us this Thursday for the Year 6 day. It's a mystery to the students but if you email me I'll let you in on our secret and you can meet us there! [email protected]
