My Daily Journal
DAY 1
Today marked the beginning of my On-the-Job Training (OJT), and it couldn't have started on a
more intriguing note. Our focus for the day was on understanding stigma, particularly in the context of
chemical dependency and roaming around the center to familiarize the surroundings and buildings
Arriving at the IT Works Chemical Dependency Center, I was filled with a mix of excitement and
nerves. The center exuded a sense of calm and professionalism, which immediately put me at ease.
We embarked on a tour of the facility, guided by experienced coach who shared their insights into
the treatment process. Witnessing the dedication of the staff and the supportive environment they've
cultivated was truly inspiring.
Our supervisor, Mr. Jay, began the day with an enlightening presentation on stigma. He explained
how it manifests in various forms, from societal attitudes to self-perception, and its detrimental effects on
individuals seeking help for addiction.
Engaging in group discussions and role-playing exercises, we delved deeper into strategies for
addressing stigma within our communities. It was encouraging to see everyone actively participating and
exchanging ideas.
As the day drew to a close, I felt a renewed sense of motivation to contribute positively to the
field of addiction treatment. The knowledge gained today will undoubtedly shape my approach to both
professional and personal interactions in the future.
Back at the office, I took some time to jot down my thoughts and impressions from the day. It's
been an eye-opening experience, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow in such a
supportive environment.
Overall, Day 1 of my OJT was a rewarding introduction to the complexities of addressing stigma
and supporting individuals on their journey towards recovery. I look forward to what the rest of my
training has in store.
Today marked the second day of my on-the-job training (OJT), and it was filled with engaging
client interactions and important discussions regarding their rights and confidentiality.
The day commenced with a briefing on the significance of understanding and upholding the Bill
of Rights, ensuring that every client receives fair and respectful treatment throughout their interactions
with our organization. This foundational knowledge served as a compass for our interactions throughout
the day.
Following the briefing, we delved into the intricacies of maintaining client confidentiality,
emphasizing the paramount importance of safeguarding sensitive information entrusted to us. We
discussed protocols, procedures, and ethical considerations to ensure the utmost protection of our clients'
privacy.
A significant portion of the day was dedicated to conducting intake interviews with clients. These
sessions were pivotal in establishing rapport, gathering pertinent information, and addressing any initial
concerns or inquiries they may have had. It was a dynamic process that required active listening,
empathy, and clear communication to foster trust and understanding.
Throughout the day, I had the opportunity to observe seasoned professionals navigate these
interactions with grace and proficiency, learning valuable techniques and approaches along the way. Their
expertise served as both guidance and inspiration as I navigated through my own interactions with clients.
In the afternoon, we evaluated their general cleaning. We started by inspecting their designated
area. These areas are frequented by all patients, so it's essential to ensure they are clean and well-
maintained. We checked for any visible dirt, dust, or clutter that needed attention. During our evaluation,
we noticed a few areas that needed improvement. For example, there were some spots on the floor that
were missed during mopping, and a few surfaces were not thoroughly wiped down. Overall, the general
cleaning of their assigned area is satisfactory, but there is room for improvement.
As the day drew to a close, I reflected on the meaningful connections forged and the invaluable
lessons learned. Each interaction reinforced the significance of empathy, professionalism, and
confidentiality in the realm of client services, laying a solid foundation for my journey ahead in this field.
In the morning, the recoveries gathered for their fellowship meeting, where we was assigned to
hear the Narcotics Anonymous session. It was inspiring to witness the honesty and vulnerability of the
participants as they shared their experiences, strengths, and hopes in their journey towards recovery.
After the fellowship meeting, we moved on to the confrontation of the core group. Using the
DESIDEE format, the recoveries addressed their concerns and feelings towards their core group
members. It was a challenging yet transformative process, as they navigated through their emotions and
worked towards resolving conflicts within the group.
In the afternoon, we engaged in the Big Book Story activity. Each recovery chose a phrase from
the Big Book and had to relate it to their own experiences. They then wrote their reflections in their
notebooks and shared them with us. It was inspiring to see how the words from the Big Book resonated
with their personal journeys and provided them with insights and encouragement.
Overall, today was a fulfilling day, filled with moments of growth, reflection, and connection. I
am grateful to be a part of this journey towards recovery and look forward to what tomorrow brings.
Today started with the recoveries engaging in their daily meditation session, focusing on the
theme of "Taking Action." We joined them in this practice, finding moments of reflection and peace
amidst the stillness. It was a valuable experience to share and discuss how the theme resonated with our
lives during recovery, highlighting the importance of proactive steps towards healing and growth.
In the afternoon, we conducted games for the recoveries, providing a fun and interactive way to
unwind and build camaraderie. The games not only brought laughter and joy but also served as a
reminder of the importance of playfulness and light-heartedness in the recovery process.
After the games, we had the opportunity to hear someone share their autobiography. It was a
deeply moving and insightful account of their journey, filled with struggles, triumphs, and moments of
profound self-discovery. Their story served as a source of inspiration and motivation for all of us,
reminding us of the resilience of the human spirit.
Following the sharing, I continued with my paperwork, ensuring that the necessary
documentation and administrative tasks were completed efficiently. It was a productive end to the day,
allowing me to reflect on the events and interactions that had transpired, and to prepare for the days
ahead.
Overall, today was a day filled with meaningful experiences and connections, reinforcing the
importance of community, reflection, and personal growth in the recovery journey.
Today began with the recoveries at the rehab facility engaging in their morning meditation
session, focusing on the theme of "Commitment." It was inspiring to see how each individual related this
theme to their own lives, sharing personal stories and reflections on the importance of commitment in
their recovery journey.
After the meditation, Miko, one of the recoveries in the It Works! group, took the brave step of
sharing his experience with Step 2. His sharing was heartfelt and honest, highlighting the challenges he
has faced in coming to terms with his higher power and the role it plays in his recovery. His courage to
share his struggles and his commitment to working through them served as a source of encouragement
and inspiration for everyone present.
As our duty ended, I couldn't help but feel grateful to be a part of this community of individuals
who are dedicated to their recovery and committed to supporting each other through every step of the
process.
Today started with our usual morning meditation session with the recoveries. It's always a
calming way to begin the day and sets a positive tone for what's to come.
After meditation, we continued with our case study work. It's been insightful to apply theoretical
knowledge to real-life scenarios, and it's helping me understand the practical aspects of our learnings.
Later in the morning, we had a lecture with Sir Jay on "Alcohol and Recovery." His expertise and
insights are always enlightening, and this lecture was no exception. It provided a deeper understanding of
the challenges and strategies involved in alcohol recovery.
In the afternoon, we resumed our case study, delving further into the complexities of the scenario.
It's challenging work, but it's incredibly rewarding to see how our discussions and analyses can contribute
to better understanding and approaches in the field of recovery.
Overall, it was a day filled with learning and reflection, and I'm grateful for the opportunities to
grow and contribute to this important work.
Today marked the last day of our On the Job Training at It Works Chemical Dependency
Treatment Inc. In the morning, we focused on finalizing the requirements for the OJT. This included
completing the case study, the intake evaluation, and preparing for the psychoeducation session for the
recoveries in the afternoon.
In the afternoon, we conducted a psychoeducation session titled "Self Love." We began the
session with their serenity prayer, setting a positive and reflective tone. To lighten the mood and engage
everyone, we started with an icebreaker called "Find Your Group" using animal sounds, which turned out
to be a lot of fun.
After the icebreaker, Daryl Perolino started his talk, which was insightful and engaging.
Following that, we conducted an activity titled "Letter to Your Future Self," which was particularly
meaningful and touching.
Overall, the psychoeducation session was a success, and both the recoveries and the staff seemed
to enjoy it. As a token of appreciation, we gave snacks and appreciation gifts to the recoveries and the
staff, ending the day and the OJT on a positive note.
