FWP releases 2023 wolf report
Population strong after increased harvest
The wolf population in Montana remains
healthy, according to the 2023 Montana Fish,
Wildlife & Parks Wolf Report. Increased harvest
during the 2023 wolf season has not yet resulted in
an estimated decline to the statewide total. However,
FWP biologists expect to see a moderate decline in
wolf numbers next year resulting from the increased
harvest in early 2024.
“We are committed to following the law to

Chief of Conservation Policy. “The statewide

Electronic identification (EID) tags
Electronic identification (EID) tags.
The latest rule touted by Brazilian packers and BS Central
home of the bs buzz
our government will require EID tags for intact cattle
over 18 months of age crossing state lines starting in
November 2024. Most of the tags come from China,
and a system to read the tags is not in place. Although
the tags can’t be routinely read, they are supposed to
help with disease traceability.
We already have excellent disease traceability. The 228- 4558
tags are easily lost in brush, transit, and shipping points.
Australian ranchers found that the Chinese processors
515 2nd Ave S
refused animals that had lost their tags. Will Brazilian
processors treat you differently?
Profit is their motive, and our government is anti-
cattle. With the EID tags, we can:
1. increase plastic pollution from lost tags,
2. increase stress on livestock with mandatory
application,
3. increase costs for producers applying tags,
4. force producers to buy the Chinese EID tags.
This EID program is a rule, not a law, and therefore
illegal under the new Chevron US Supreme Court
ruling. To protest, call 1-202-224-3121 and leave a
message for your Montana Senators Daines and Tester
(the switchboard will ask name and state) plus your
representatives, Zinke and Rosendale. It is their job to
protect you; ask them to do that!
I believe I actually spoke to Representative
Rosendale… he isn’t campaigning.
