• Engine problems: Low power at high


altitude and also A/C compressor takes
some power from the engine that means
power reduction
• Paus solution:
– New diesel engine form Caterpillar C4.4 ACERT
• Power: 97kW@2,200 rpms
• Exhaust gas level: EU Stufe III/EPA Tier 3
• Generator: 28V, 100 A
• Starter: 24V, 4.5 KW
– Possibility to upgrade to 106 kW@2,200rpms

– Relocation of hydraulic tanks to outer structure
– Relocation of exhaust gas system
– 55% more cooling surface
– Variable displacement pumps reduces temperature in hydraulic
oil circuit

• Cooling system problems: Coolers (radiator and hydraulic


oil coolers) get corroded easily allowing leaks, service is
difficult
• Paus solution:
– Coolers are coated with KTL coating for high corrosion resistance
and acid water protection
– Cooler can be replaced easily
– Cooler is arranged in three pieces. Every piece can be
refurbished easily

Articulation join and structure to weak
• Paus solution:
– New frame design is more massive and rigid
– Articulation bearing are more stronger and more
robust
– Distance between articulation joints is enlarged
– Articulation joint with two pins instead of only one
(makes service easier)
– Now joint bearings instead of bushings allows
movements in all axis
– Inaccuracies in the bore holes and movements with
heavy loads will be better compensated
– No adjustment of the axial bearing clearance
necessary, no axial bearing preload necessary
– Re-inforced steering cylinder

• Paus solution:
– Displacement pumps for better
temperature balance and more efficiency in
hydraulic system in high altitude operations
– All hoses are made in abrasive material to
guarantee longer lifetime in rough
underground conditions

• Cylinder problems: Cylinder design is to weak


• Paus solution:
– Cylinders for steering, tipping and swivelling are changed to stronger
versions
– Old: 804180; piston 80mm, rod 35mm, stroke 300mm
– New: 842755; piston 90mm, rod 50mm, stroke 370mm
– Hardened and corrosion resistance piston rods
– All cylinders are equipped with double lip seals

– Stronger cylinder
– New mounting position for better rod protection against hits
– Piston rod is mounted in opposite way (rod will be extended down)

• Paus solution:
– New boom design with new hexagon shape which avoid dust deposits
on boom
– Heavy duty design (material: S700)
– More attachment weight up to 400 kg
– Easy exchange of sliding plates from the rear of the boom
– Higher reliability of sliding plates due to better scraping ability
– Scraping plates out of polyethylene (easy to change/ longer lifetime)
– Telescopic boom with vibration absorption system for better driving
behaviour and less structure stress
