I. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation is a higher education degree program that deals with study of navigation,
cargo handling and stowage, controlling the safe operation and care for persons onboard the ship at the operational level.
It is a four-year curricular structured program with three (3) years academic completion and one (1) year shipboard practice.
Completion of the said requirements will qualify for board examinations as Officer-in-Charge of the Navigational Watch (OIC-
NW).
II. PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
The BSMT program aims to:
1. Produce graduates who are:
1.1 competent to carry out safely the task, duties and responsibilities of an Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Navigational
Watch on seagoing ships of 500 gross tonnage or more, both at sea and in port;
1.2 fully conversant with the basic principles to be observed in keeping a navigational watch as per STCW Regulation VIII/2
and Chapter VIII of the STCW Code; and,
1.3 qualified to pursue a professional career or advanced studies in any related maritime field of specialization.
2. Provide and equip students with knowledge, understanding, proficiencies, skills, competencies, attitudes and values to
qualify them for:
2.1 professional licensure examination; and,
2.2 assessment and certification as Officer in Charge (OIC) of Navigational Watch on seagoing ships of 500 gross tonnage
or more;
3. Provide activities that will endeavor in developing A-I-M-S core values among cadets/cadettes, responsive to the ethical
standards of the profession within the three (3) curricular years all-inclusive of two (2) months in-house training in Merchant
Marine Cadetship Program (MMCP) Smart Intelligent and Resilient Program and two (2) years aptitude for service.
