April Fool’s Day

In many countries around the world, 1 April is April Fool’s Day.* On this day
people play jokes on their friends and family. Then they shout, “April Fool!”
Each country plays jokes in a different way. In France, children put a paper fish
on their friends’ backs. They ask each other, “Have I got something on my
back?” If the answer is yes, they are called ‘April Fish’. In Scotland, children try
to put a paper on a friend’s back that says, “Kick me!”
Popular jokes to play on April Fool’s Day are to invite a friend to a party when
there is no party or to say that there is no school on that day. A joke that
someone played in the USA was to show a film about ‘spaghetti farmers’
growing spaghetti on their farms!
April Fool’s Day isn’t a holiday. People go to work and to school. But it is a fun
day when you laugh with your friends and family and try not to be an ‘April
Fool’.
