TASK DESCRIPTION

This task has 2 components: Part A worth 20 marks and Part B worth 10 marks for a total of 30 marks.

Part A: Students will complete a research project on Sports Medicine. This must be typed on a Word document, size 12 font Arial
or Calibri. It must be submitted on CANVAS and submitted by 2:00 pm Monday 17th of June.

Part B: Will be completed in class on Monday 17th of June Period 5. Students will complete 10 multiple choice questions worth 1
mark each. Time limit of 15 minutes will apply for completion of multiple choice.

TASK INSTRUCTIONS
Part A: Students are to research a sport of their choice and complete the following questions:
1) Name and describe the sport (2 marks)
2) Outline the policies, rules and protective equipment that are in place in that sport to promote safe participation (5 marks)
3) Describe physical preparation strategies that an athlete could use to prevent injuries in your chosen sport (4 marks)
4) Identify an injury common in this sport, explain how the injury could occur, classify the injury and explain the correct
management procedures (5 marks)
5) Analyse how this sport can be modified to address the requirements of children and the elderly, considering the implications
on engagement and safety. (4 marks)

Part B: Students will complete 10 multiple choice questions from Critical Questions 1, 2 and 3 of the Sports Medicine Option.
(1 mark each)

Drafts: It is encouraged that students prepare drafts for teacher feedback. No drafts will be read in the three days prior to the
date of submission.

In case of absence/ illness/misadventure, the procedures outlined in the Assessment Booklet must be followed. Failure to do so
will result in a zero mark, while the task must still be completed.

MARKING CRITERIA

This task will be marked by the current teacher of the course as per the marking criteria/guidelines published. Check marking will
be implemented by the Head Teacher for consistency.

In this task you will be assessed on how well you:

● Can explain the relationship between physiology and movement potential


● Can explain how a variety of training approaches and other interventions enhance performance and safety in sport.
● Can select and apply strategies for the management of injuries and the promotion of safety in sport and physical activity.
● Can select appropriate options and formulate strategies based on a critical analysis of the factors affecting performance
