A. Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of the musical characteristics of representative
music from the lowlands of Luzon

B. Performance Standard The learner performs music of the lowlands with appropriate pitch, rhythm, expression,
and style

C. Learning Competencies/ Objectives LC: Explains the distinguishing characteristics of representative Philippine music
selections from Luzon in relation to its culture and geography

Objectives:
1. Identify the musical characteristics of representative music selections from the
lowlands of Luzon (MU7LU - Ia - 1)
2.Improvise simple rhythmic/melodic accompaniments to selected secular music from
the Lowlands of Luzon (MU7LU - Ic - f - 5)

IV. PROCEDURE
A. Review *The teacher will play example of Liturgical Music.
*What are the characteristics of Liturgical music?

>These are religious in nature.


>Sung inside the place of worship.
B. Presentation of the Lesson *The teacher will present the objectives of the lesson.

*The teacher will show pictures of harana, kumintang, and pandanggo.

C. Development of the Lesson The teacher will discuss the Secular Music.

What is your idea about Secular Music?


>Secular Music refers to any music that is not religious in nature.

The teacher will discuss Harana


*Harana is a serenade traditionally sung by a man to express his love to a lady. This is
a duple meter in danza menor or habanera tempo. It is sung with emotion and usually
accompanied by a guitar.

*What are examples of Harana?

>Kumintang is a song with themes of love and courtship.

*What is the famous example of Kumintang? Describe it.


>Mutya ng Pasig. In this song, the mutya expresses her feelings under the light of the
moon. She is mourning the loss of her love, which symbolizes the country’s loss of
freedom.

>Pandanggo is a dance form that can be found in the different islands of Luzon such as
Batanes, Ilocos, Tarlac and parts of Visayas. This is performed during social
celebrations.

 The teacher will group the students to prepare for the presentations showing the
musical characteristics of secular music.

 The teacher will let the students find materials that can be used in the
presentation.
 The teacher will provide the music to the group that will perform the dance.
 The teacher will present and discuss the Rubrics for evaluation.
 The teacher will give 10 minutes for each group to practice/prepare for the
presentations.

E. Evaluation A. Students will perform and the teacher will evaluate the performance using the
performance rubrics
