Main project features: My village My town project has been launched in order to transfer basic town services to
villages and to bridge the gap between village and town. This concept was included in the current government's
election manifesto, as well as the Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina's commitment. Basic
services of the project include road development, drainage, water supply, sanitation, and rural waste
management, among other things. The government has initiated My village My Town project to minimize the flow
of rural population over the city and to reduce the population pressure on the city. .
Position held: Senior Waste Management Specialist (individual Consultant)
Activities performed: Prepared the Terms of Reference for choosing the consulting firm to conduct the SWM
feasibility study in the 15 pilot villages. Created questionnaires for focus groups, KIIs, and the household survey.
Analyzed the international case studies for the control of liquid and solid waste in rural areas. Developed a
national framework for the management of faecal and solid waste in rural areas that focuses on 3 (three) models.
Model-1 for Villages waste management, model-2 for Union and haat-bazar base waste management and model-
3 for Upazila Sadar linkage with Municipal base waste management. Reviewed existing rules and regulations of
solid waste management system in Bangladesh particularly the Solid Waste Management Rule-2021 of
Bangladesh. Designed one sanitary landfill with components of i) Control Building, ii) Weigh Bridge, iii) Dump
Truck Cleaning Facility, iv) HDPE Perforated Leachate Collection Pipe, v) HDPE Perforated Leachate Drainage

sludge generation developed in the DD report. Reviewed technical options proposed for collection, transport and

Main project features: The Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) is one of the poorest regions of Bangladesh. Poverty in
CHT stems from prolonged under-development in the five forms of capital which are necessary to sustain
livelihoods and improve overall human well-being namely: (i) physical capital (i.e., the lack of roads and bridges,
telecommunications, water supply, irrigation and agriculture facilities; (ii) human capital (i.e., the lack of access
to education and vocational skills and health services; (iii) social capital (i.e., prevailing political tensions,
fragmented local leadership, lack of governance and social exclusion; (iv) natural capital (i.e., unsustainable land
uses as a result of uncertain tenure rights, and increased climate vulnerability; and (v) financial capital (i.e., lack
of personal savings and credit, limited inward remittances, and the limited flow of development funds from both
the public and private sectors).

Activities performed: Reviewed available literature, conducted a survey to understand the scale of solid waste
being generated in rural towns in the CHT. Prepared conceptual design of sanitary landfill. Consulted with Hill
District Council (HDCs) and selected Para Development Committees (PDCs) to identify potential sites for a pilot
project on solid waste management. Developed a pilot project adopting appropriate technology and local

Main project features: The project aims to support the Government of Bangladesh in addressing the immediate
and urgent needs of the displaced persons in Cox’s Bazar District, as identified by the United Nations (UN) in its
Joint Response Plan (JRP). The project will mainly support the improvement of water supply and sanitation,
disaster risk management, sustainable energy supply, and access roads. The main focus of the project is to
improve water supply and sanitation components under output -1.
Position held: Solid Waste Management Expert
Activities performed: A developed strategy for the operational plan for community-based solid waste
management including collection mechanism. Construction supervision of integrated waste management (both
faecal and solid waste), and resource recovery facilities with collection systems at the outskirts of camps and
monitoring its operation. Assessed the volume of medical waste generated in the hospital of camp areas.
Redesigned a single sanitary landfill with integrated waste management infrastructure. The sanitary landfill
included the following components: i) Control Building, ii) HDPE Perforated Leachate Drainage Pipe, vi)
Leachate Sump, vi) Peripheral Embankment, vii) Peripheral Road, and viii) Leachate Pond and Pipe Washing Pit.
(The total size of the sanitary landfill is approximately 2 acres). Supervising the installation of Omni Processor
(Incinerator) developed by Ankur Scientific, India for treatment of solid waste and faecal sludge. Assisted in the
procurement of faecal sludge and waste management equipment. Supervising construction activities with quality
control. Provided orientation and training to the concerned-on waste management process, its socio-economic
viability, overall environmental improvement, and importance from climate resilience aspects. Designed and
organized capacity building training program for PMO on O&M of the faecal sludge and solid waste treatment
plant, public awareness, and motivational campaign for better hygiene.

Main project features: To understand the present status of solid waste and septage/faecal sludge generation,
collection, transportation, disposal, and overall management system. Determine the feasibility of introducing city-
wide inclusive sanitation and viable solid waste management technologies aligned with area-wise resources
availability, social, financial, and environmental acceptance, public willingness to pay for services, sustainability,
etc. To determine the existing situation and to draw the outline of implementing IRF for FSM in the target areas
for assuring environment friendly and safely managed inclusive sanitation and waste management system in
broader scale digitized platform. To address SDG 6.2 and plan for implementation of action to achieve the
indicators directly and partially.

Activities performed: Prepared household, FGD, and KII survey questionnaires to assess the current situation and
potential involvement of solid waste, medical waste and faecal sludge management system in 8(Eight) City
Corporations and 53 (fifty-three) Municipalities. Prepared inception and final report for the project. Responsible
for the performance of all project deliverables. Responsible for investment plan which focuses on the concept of
city-wide inclusive sanitation (CWIS) for the area and population to be served by appropriate sanitation options.
Reviewed the existing policy and legislation of SWM in Bangladesh. Responsible for rapid assessment of demand

Main project features: To improve the governance, capacity building, financial sustainability and participation of
stakeholders and residents of the activities of the municipalities transform it to ‘Model Municipality’.
Rehabilitation, construction, expansion of basic infrastructures to improve communication facilities, removes
water logging, and drainage congestions with an integrated drainage network system. Increase the pure water
supply, improve the sanitation system and planned solid waste management etc. to improve the environment
and sustain an ecological balance and the quality of livelihood.

Activities performed: Executed feasibility study in 5(Five) additional municipalities (Mymensing, Kushtia,
Gopalganj, Faridpur and Cox’s Bazar) to evaluate the current solid waste management situation. Designed 3

embankment, peripheral road, boundary wall, leachate collection drainage, leachate sump and leachate pond.

water logging and drainage congestions with integrated drainage network system. Increase pure water supply
and improve sanitation system, planned solid waste management etc. to improve the environment and sustain
an ecological balance and quality of livelihood.
Position held: Solid Waste Management Specialist.
Activities performed: Executed a feasibility study to assess the current situation of SWM in 31 (Thirty-one)
municipalities including one at Khagrachari, one at Rangamati and one at Bandarban Municipality. Designed 18
(Eighteen) sanitary landfills (including one at Khagrachari) applicable for secondary towns, calculated the
volume of solid waste and medical waste generated and investigated the design area. The components of
sanitary landfills were control building, dump truck cleaning facility, peripheral embankment, peripheral road,
boundary wall, leachate collection drainage, leachate sump and leachate pond. (Total area of sanitary landfill
is around 3 acres). Designed 16(Sixteen) Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (Planted Drying Bed). Analyzed the
technical, environmental and socioeconomic situation and proposed for suitable intervention both hard & soft
part solid waste management including focusing on climate-resilient issues. Prepared detail design, cost estimate
and O & M guideline for the difficult terrain/slope like khagrachari sanitary landfill & transfer station. Prepared
a guideline for safe disposal of medical waste including designed for burial pit and incinerator. Designed secondary
transfer station to facilitate waste transfer from rickshaw van to dump truck. Designed box type composts plant
for 3 (Three) TPD capacity. Conducted a baseline survey to assess the medical waste management situation in
