SAFETY SUMMARY

The following are general safety precautions and instructions

that must be understood and applied during many phases of
operation and maintenance to ensure personnel safety and
health and the protection of Air Force property. Portions may
be repeated elsewhere in this publication for emphasis.

GROUNDING AIRPLANE
A hazardous voltage may be present on the airplane before
ground wire is connected. To prevent a dangerous shock,
connect ground wire to earth ground before connecting to
airplane.

STAY CLEAR OF CARGO DOOR AREA WITH AUXILIARY

HYDRAULIC SYSTEM PRESSURIZED
Personnel and equipment shall remain clear of cargo door
area whenever the auxiliary hydraulic system is pressurized.
Failure to comply could injure personnel or damage
equipment.

DEACTIVATE AFT CARGO DOOR

Prior to performing maintenance in the ramp and aft cargo
area, ensure cargo door system is deactivated. Failure to
comply may result in injury to personnel.
INSTALL AFT CARGO DOOR SAFETY LOCK AND CARGO RAMP
CYLINDER PISTON ROD GUARD ASSEMBLY
Anytime the airplane is on the ground with maintenance
being performed in the aft section of the airplane beyond
fuselage station 737, aft cargo door safety lock, part number
402700, and ramp actuating cylinder piston rod guard assem-
bly, part number 402519, shall be installed on exposed actuat-
ing piston rods to prevent inadvertent operation of the cargo
door and to protect cargo ramp actuating cylinder piston rods
from damage. Failure to utilize the safety lock could result in
injury to personnel.

INTRODUCTION

NOTE It is very important that the following information

be read carefully before using this job guide manual.
This introduction describes the use and arrangement
of the manual.

SCOPE.
This manual provides illustrated, step-by-step, organiza-
tional level maintenance procedures for the C-130 structural
doors.
The C-130 Structural Doors Organizational Maintenance Job
Guide manual includes eight volumes: TO
1C-130H-2-52JG-00-1, General Maintenance; TO
1C-130H-2-52JG-10-1, Crew Door; TO 1C-130H-2-52JG-10-2,
Paratroop Doors; TO 1C-130H-2-52JG-20-1, Emergency Exit
Doors; TO 1C-130H-2-52JG-30-1, Aft Cargo Door; TO
1C-130H-2-52JG-30-2, Cargo Ramp; TO
1C-130H-2-52JG-70-1, Door Warning System; and TO
1C-130(A)H-2-52JG-40-1, Service Doors (AC-130U).

USE.
This manual has been developed for use by both experienced
and less experienced maintenance mechanics. Key words in
each task are presented in boldface type. Experienced
mechanics may use these key words to avoid the necessity of
reading the complete detailed instructions. Less experienced
mechanics should read the entire procedure.

ARRANGEMENT.
Instructions in this manual are arranged in a function/task
format with procedural steps on a left-hand page, supported
by an illustration on a right-hand page. Index numbers on
an illustration identify components requiring action. These
index numbers follow the component names in the procedu-
ral steps. Placarding differences between airplane models
are separated in the text by a slash.

Change 3 iv.1/(iv.2 blank)

TO 1C-130H-2-52JG-70-1

A function is made up of a task or series of tasks and illus-

trations which support maintenance of a system or compo-
nent. Typical tasks are removal, installation, adjustment,
rigging, operational checkout, etc. All steps within a task
must be accomplished to complete the task. All tasks within
a function must be accomplished to complete the function.

Change 3 v
TO 1C-130H-2-52JG-70-1

All steps listed under follow on maintenance must be accom-

plished when a function has been completed.

INPUT CONDITIONS.
The input condition page at the start of each function contains
information required to prepare the airplane for maintenance
and lists the recommended number of people to complete the
function. Each mechanic is given a mechanic identification
letter and is assigned a primary work station. Consumable
supplies, special tools and test equipment, and additional
manuals are also listed.
All coordination with the mechanics in the
WARNING flight station, cargo compartment,
underdeck, wings, and wheel well areas
requires a positive response that these
mechanics have properly understood the
action to be taken, and confirmation that
the action has been completed. Failure to
comply could cause injury to personnel and
damage to the airplane.
At the start of each task, it is the responsibility of mechanic A
to brief all other mechanics on their individual assignments
and responsibilities. Mech A shall be in control of the entire
task. No step within the task shall be performed until a
specific request is made by Mech A.

ILLUSTRATIONS.
Illustrations include a location view of equipment and index
numbers for each component part on which maintenance is
being performed. When a function/task requires more than
one set of pages, the index number sequence starts with
number 1 on each illustration page.
Switch positions, control settings, and indication displays
shown on illustrations may not match those called out in the
related instructions.

SAFETY AND HEALTH HAZARDS.

Maintenance activities are written in a sequence which mini-
mizes the time and effort to perform them. The procedures are
also written in a sequence to emphasize safety. Opening or

vi
TO 1C-130H-2-52JG-70-1

closing aft cargo door or cargo ramp can easily injure a

mechanic. A Safety Summary is included in this manual
listing precautions that need to be observed. These precau-
tions may not be repeated elsewhere in the manual.

CONDITIONS NOT COVERED BY THIS MANUAL.

The instructions in this manual represent planned action for
conditions normally encountered during maintenance. It is
almost impossible to account for maintenance difficulties
that may be only occasionally encountered. Therefore, the
use of local decisions for general repair practices, not involv-
ing safety of flight, is encouraged to avoid unnecessary delay
when coverage in the manual is incomplete. Any variation
from procedures shall be consistent with standard shop prac-
tices and shall not detract from overall efficiency and opera-
tion of the equipment.

IMPROVEMENT REPORTS.
Recommendations for improvements to this technical order
shall be submitted on AFTO Form 22, Technical Manual
(TM) Change Recommendation and Reply. Complete AFTO
Form 22 in accordance with TO 00-5-1.

GLOSSARY.
