COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

Vision: To produce leaders for tomorrow’s world.

Mission: To provide in education the Christian culture of excellence and examples that transforms lives.

Program Educational Outcome:

As a statement of the career and professional accomplishment in which the College of Engineering, the Civil Engineering
program is preparing its graduate to achieve:
1. Be able to impart essential knowledge, elements, tools and skills necessary to become successful engineers;
2. Develop students’ ability to recognize, formulate and solve civil engineering problems; and
3. Provide the students with a meaningful experience in research and design that are relevant to the civil engineering field.

Course Code: BDesign Course Title: Building Design Sysytem

Credit Units: 3 units Lecture Units: 3 units Laboratory: None
Course Description:
Building construction is examined from standpoint of life safety (including fire safety and zoning constraint on site
planning): architectural and building service system (plumbing, electrical, vertical transportation, security, fire protection) materials
sustainability, and life cycle analysis, accessibility: technical documentation and outline specification: building enclosure system and
interior finish system.
The lecture course will focus on developing knowledge of building system. Including architectural design, building constructions and
construction techniques, and will foster the skills required to adopt a building system approach compliant to the National Building Code
and its referral codes. Students develops knowledge of building system will also include understanding of different types and application
of building materials and diverse construction techniques.
The laboratory course will focus on the tools and techniques to create a computer-generated building model, and applied tools for
working with computer model exploring output and simulation.

Course Outcomes (CO)

When the students have successfully completed this course, they will be able to:
1. Identify appropriate provisions of the National Building Code & its referral codes as these apply to buildings;
2. Codes & Regulations: Ability to design sites, facilities, & systems that are responsive to relevant codes & regulations, and includes the
principles of life safely & accessibility standards
3. Technical Documentation: Ability to make technical clear drawing, prepare outline specifications, and construct models illustrating &
identifying the assembly of materials, systems, components appropriate for a building design;
4. Building Envelope Systems & Assemblies: Understanding of the basic principles involved in the appropriate selection & application of
building envelope system relative to fundamental performance, aesthetic, moisture transfer, durability, & energy material resources;
5. Building Materials & Assemblies: Understanding of the basic principles used in the appropriate selection of interior & exterior
construction materials, finishes, products, components & assemblies base on their inherent performance, including environmental impact
& reuse;
6. Building Service Systems: Understanding of the basic principles & appropriate application & performance of building service system,
including lighting, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, commination, vertical transportation, security & fire protection system;
7. Financial Considerations Understanding of the fundamentals of building costs,
