Ungarion bugarion Unga bungaaa haha The early internet came with the dream of a world in which the

science, culture and art or the world are at the hand's reach, friendship knows no border, and information
is free. A few decades in, the internet has, largely, been a disappointment. But once in a while, it lets
precious hints of what could have been shine through the muck.

One of those gems is an ongoing video series by Russian Youtube artist DaFukBoom. Because the
musical choice and sound mixing are integral to his work, it would not do to overlook the musicians : the
Bulgarian group Biser King released the song Dom Dom Yes Yes in 2022, which, already going viral on
Tiktok, was further pushed into the spotlight by Turkish dancer Yasin Cengiz, before being noticed by
DaFukBoom in January 2023. With other notable contributions such as samples from British pop band
Tears for Fear, we can say with assurance that it took the combined genius of artists the world over to
culminate into a work of art such as Skibidi Toilet.

DaFukBoom started the series as a gag, but as each installment went viral and attracted ever more
viewers, he started putting more and more work into each episode and stringing them along a more
cohesive plot, which is unfinished at the time this essay is being written. The artistic progression is visible
between episodes and has exceeded many professional productions. Also, the artist tries to keep his
miscellaneous projects ongoing on the side, so a fan would be well advised to check out his account for
off-series content as well!

Now, comes the dreaded part of an internet essay, in which we overanalyse something we could simply
chuckle at and scroll on. Lets examine this simple question : But... are we rooting for the camera men?

The obvious answer is yes. The story is shown from their point of view, with the skibidi toilets always
appearing as enemies. The camera men are designed with attractive and well-dressed bodies, their body
language is expressive and clear, they show comraderie, and grieve when their friends are killed. Even
though they have electronics for heads, and « bleed » electricity, they look human in every way that
matters.

Whereas the toilets are grotesque and unreadable, with crudely exaggerated facial expressions that can't
convey subtle emotions, and a ridiculous toilet "body", something inherently dirty. They have a weirdly
deformed but human head, and bleed when injured, but nothing in their activities reflects a life we could
relate to. Clearly, having flesh and blood is not enough to make one one of us, especially when wearing a
porcelain shell.

But their behaviour is equivalent. Both side is fighting the other, both using dirty tricks and doing war
crimes, destroying the city around them, with no hint of either's agenda. The cartoonish arms race piles on
increasingly futuristic weapons until both sides have transformed themselves into machines of
destruction. They continue fighting when no civilian is left around and the buildings are nothing but ruins.
What could possibly be at stake, if the fight goes on with nothing left to win? As of March 2024, the
series has not revealed that.

So, with no information on what either side wants, why do we take a side? Perhaps it is a good time to
think about what we are shown. We see what the main character sees, he controls our information. When
a Camera Man has his head ripped off, it is sad. When a Skibidi Toilet is beaten to death with a spiked
plunger, it is funny. Yet, aren't they both a fallen soldier?
