III.
Review factoring general trinomials of the form : 𝑎𝑥2+𝑏𝑥+𝑐
𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑛 𝑎=1 in the form of a game.
A. Motivation : “REVEAL ME”
Reviewing Direction : Ask the students to unlock the picture hidden by finding the correct
previous lesson
or presenting the factors on the trinomials. For every correct factor a part of the picture will be
new lesson revealed.

Material : Can be presented in powerpoint or teacher can print and prepare

the activity before the start of the class.

Front Page :

Picture that will be revealed after finding the correct factors.

IV. PROCEDURES

After the activity, ask the students:

~ What does the revealed picture represent?
Proclamation of Independence day on June 12, 1898.
~ What do you know about Philippines independence day?
Also known as “Araw ng Kasarinlan” or Day of Freedom is an annual national holiday in
the Philippines observed on June 12, commemorating the independence day of the
Philippines from Spain. On June 5, 1898, Aguinaldo issued a decree setting aside June
12, 1898 as the day of proclamation of independence. Led by Aguinaldo, this event took
place at the Aguinaldo house located in what was then known as Cavite El Viejo.

B Establishing a Present the objectives of the day :

Purpose for the “ Last time you’ve learned how to factor trinomials of the form :
lesson.
𝑎𝑥2+𝑏𝑥+𝑐 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑛 𝑎=1, today you’re going to learn how to factor trinomials of
the form 𝑎𝑥2+𝑏𝑥+𝑐 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑛 𝑎 ≠ 1 and polynomials with more than three terms.

B. Presenting Show examples of trinomials of the form 𝑎𝑥2+𝑏𝑥+𝑐 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑛 𝑎 ≠1, where 𝑎
examples/instances of and 𝑏 are the numerical coefficients of the variables and 𝑐 as the
the new lesson constant term. Tell the students that they can factor these trinomials
using any of the four different methods.
1. 3𝑥2 – 𝑥 – 10
2. 6𝑥2 – 7𝑥 – 20
C. Discussing New Activity 1 : “FOLLOW ME TO FACTOR”
Concept and Direction : Ask the students to factor the given trinomial by following the
Practicing new skills different steps per method. Teacher should prepare the materials needed
#1
for the activity.
Instruction : Form five groups. Each group shall be given different
methods and steps on how to factor the trinomials. Solution and answer
shall be written on the board.
Time Allotment : Students shall be given 15 minutes to perform the task
given.
Material : Worksheets with Examples and steps in factoring.
Blackboard/Whiteboard
𝐺𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑝 1. Factor 𝟑𝒙𝟐 – 𝒙 – 𝟏𝟎 through Trial and Error.
𝐸𝑥𝑎𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑒 1. Factor 6𝑧2 – 5z – 6 through Trial and E method :
1. Give all the factors of 6𝑧2 and – 6

Write the all possible factors using the values above and
determine the middle term by multiplying the factors.

3. Write the all possible factors using the values above and
determine the middle term by multiplying the factors.
Answer : In the given factors,(3𝑧 + 2)(2𝑧 – 3) gives the sum of
– 5𝑧, thus, making it as the factors of the trinomial
6𝑧2 – 5z – 6.

𝐺𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑝 2. Factor 𝟔𝒙𝟐 – 𝟕𝒙 – 𝟐𝟎 through AC method:

𝐸𝑥𝑎𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑒 2. Factor 2𝑘2−11𝑘+12 through AC method :
1. Multiply the first and last terms. (2𝑘2)(12)= 24𝑘2 2. Find the factors of 24𝑘2 whose
sum is −11𝑘 (middle term)
3. Rewrite the trinomial as four – term expressions by replacing the
middle term by the sum factor. 2𝑘2−3𝑘−8𝑘+12
4. Group terms with common factor. (2𝑘2−8𝑘)+(−3𝑘+12)
5. Factor the groups using greatest common monomial factor.
2𝑘(𝑘 – 4) – 3(𝑘 – 4)
6. Factor out the common binomial and write the remaining factor
as sum or difference of binomial. (𝑘 – 4)(2𝑘 – 3)
E. Discussing new Activity 2 : “TEAM FACTORING”
concepts and Direction : Ask the students to factor the given polynomials by following
practicing new skills the steps in factoring by grouping method. Teacher should prepare the
#2
materials needed for the activity.
Instruction : The students will be given 5 minutes to answer the task.
Material : Worksheets with Example in factoring by grouping.
Factor by grouping : 4𝑤𝑡+2𝑤ℎ+6𝑖𝑡+3𝑖ℎ
𝐸𝑥𝑎𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑒 : 18𝑙𝑣+6𝑙𝑒+24𝑜𝑣+8𝑜𝑒
𝑆𝑡 : 1. Group the terms with common factor.
(18𝑙𝑣+6𝑙𝑒)+(24𝑜𝑣+8𝑜𝑒)
2. Factor out the greatest common monomial factor in each
group.
6𝑙(3𝑣+𝑒)+8𝑜(3𝑣+3)
3. Factor out the common binomial factor and write the
remaining factor as a sum or difference of the
common monomial factor.
(3𝑣+𝑒)(6𝑙+8𝑜)
F.Developing After the activity ask the students :
Mastery 1. How did you factor the given polynomials?
2. What did you do to factor the polynomials easily?
Work on the Activity 16 : “WITH A BLINK” , LM PAGE 46.
Description : This game will help you practice your factoring skills with
speed and accuracy through a game.
Time Allotment : 15 minutes
Instruction : Your task as a group is to factor the expressions that your
teacher will show you. Each correct answer is given a point. The group
with the most number of points wins the game.
Material : Flash card containing the following expressions to factor
1. 2x2 + 7x + 4
2. 2x2 – 15x + 7
3. 5x2 + 21x + 4
4. 3x2 + 17x + 10
5. 2x2 + 21x + 40
