Functions
Angles • With respect to a rectangular
coordinate system, an angle is said
in to be in standard position , when
its vertex is at the origin and its

Standard initial side coincides with the

positive x axis

Position
Angles in Standard
Position

An angle is said to be a
first/second/third/ fourth quadrant angle
if, when in a standard position, its
terminal side falls in each specific
quadrant. Ex: first-quadrant angle,
second-quadrant angle
Angles in Standard
Position

• Coterminal angles- these are two angles

which when placed in standard
position, have coincident terminal
sides.
• Angles 0, 90, 180, 270 ang all angles
coterminal with them are called
quadrantal angles

functions
Circular functions are defined such that their domains are sets of numbers
that correspond to the measures (in radian units) of the angles of analogous
trigonometric functions. The ranges of these circular functions, like their
Circular Functions analogous trigonometric functions, are sets of real numbers
Radian- a unit of plane angular measurement that is equal to the angle at
the center of a circle subtended by an arc whose length equals the radius
𝑠 = 𝑟𝜃
Unit Circle
Circular Functions

Each arc length s determines a single ordered pair (cos , sin )

Similar to trigonometric functions sin and cos, it is just coordinates

on a unit circle

Any angle in degree measure can be converted to radian measure ,

and this radian measure is paired with an arc s
