APPENDIX B

Laboratory Report Format

Title:
The title should be concise and descriptive of the experiment or study conducted in the
laboratory.

Abstract:
The abstract provides a brief summary of the entire laboratory report. It should include the
purpose of the experiment, the methods used, key results, and major conclusions. Keep it
concise, usually around 100-200 words.

Introduction:
The introduction sets the context and background for the experiment. It should include the
purpose of the experiment, the underlying theory or concepts, and any relevant prior
research/background info. The hypothesis (if applicable) should also be stated here.

Materials and Methods:

In this section, list all the materials and equipment used in the experiment. Include detailed
and clear instructions on the experimental procedure so that the study can be replicated by
others. Be specific about the measurements and variables involved.

Results:
Present the raw data and observations obtained during the experiment. Use tables, graphs, and
figures to display data whenever appropriate. Describe the results in a clear and organized
manner. Avoid interpreting the data in this section.

Discussion:
The discussion is where you interpret and analyze the results of the experiment. Address
whether the data supports or refutes the hypothesis (if there was one). Explain any trends,
patterns, or anomalies observed in the results. Compare your findings with prior research and
discuss any sources of error or limitations in the experiment.

Conclusion:
Summarize the main findings of the experiment and reiterate the significance of the results.
The conclusion should be brief and directly tied to the objectives stated in the introduction.

References:
Include a list of all the sources you cited or referenced in the laboratory report. Follow a
specific citation style (APA, MLA, etc.) as required by your instructor.
Appendices (if applicable):
Include any additional information or supplementary data that is relevant to the experiment
but not essential for the main report. This may include raw data tables, calculation details, or
extra graphs.

Formatting:
Use a clear and legible font (such as Times New Roman or Arial) in 12-point size.
Set the page margins to 25mm (1 inch) on all sides.
Double-space the entire report, including the abstract, and use consistent line spacing
throughout.
Number all pages and include a header or footer with the title or lab report name and page
number.
Use headings and subheadings to organize different sections of the report clearly.
Always remember to follow any specific guidelines or requirements provided by your
instructor or the institution when formatting your laboratory report.
