• Part A.3 Brief description of structures required
The specific requirement related with structure, design parameter, Bill of material,
accessories and acceptance checklist are specified in the Appendices.

A.1 Design Requirement

A.1.1 General
The Tenderer is obliged to meet all detailed specifications for the structure stipulated herein.
This section describes in general terms the design and fabrication of structure required to
support the specified telecommunication antennas.

A.1.2 Design Standard

All requirements are based on the recognized international design standard and the Tenderer
is required to adopt this standard as a guideline for design, fabrication and transportation of
the structure. The standard to be adopted is:
• ANSI/TIA-222-G ‘Structural Standard for Antenna Supporting Structures and Antennas’
Addendum No. 2.
Other international standards shall be incorporated as part of the said above are as follows:
• Structural concrete design to ACI 318 – 05 ‘Building Code Requirements for Structural
Concrete’.
• General structural steelwork design to AISC LRFD – 99 ‘Load and Resistance Factor
Design Specification for Structural Buildings’.

A.1.3 Stress Design

The stress design shall consider the combined effect of wind load and dead load of the
antennas, structure, and other accessories so the possible worst-case stresses are thoroughly
examined. The wind shall be considered in all directions to ensure possible worst-case load
combinations are included in the stress design.
All arrangement of the antenna at any point on the structure from initial-to-intermediate loading
shall be included as part of final loading which eventually result in more onerous moment in
the structure. Thus, three-dimensional stress design is recommended. Any significant
eccentricities in load application that would produce excessive deflection and torsion in the
structure shall be considered as well.
The possibility of wind gust-induced vibration which increases stresses, deflection and torsion
in the structure shall be considered using method of quasi-static load assumption as described
for the non-linear equation system.
Depending on the country climatic condition, ice and seismic (earthquake) load shall be
included in the stress design according to the adopted standard and other related references.

A.1.4 Wind Speed

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION_LAMP POLE Page 3 of 20

edotco Group Sdn Bhd

The structure shall be designed according to the following wind requirements.

Basic Wind Speed: The basic wind speed of 180 kph (3 second gust) is defined as the
highest wind speed which expected to occur on average once in every 50 years at 10 m height
above ground level.
Design Wind Speed: The design wind speed is a multiplication of basic wind speed to
appropriate factors due to ground roughness in the surrounding area and location of the
structure either on flat ground, ridge, escarpment or on hilltop.
The wind load on antennas, structure and other accessories defined as the component shall
be calculated using design wind speed for the following requirements:
• To calculate Effective Projected Area (EPA) of the component that expose to the wind flow.
The EPA is defined as multiplication of physical area of the component with an
aerodynamic drag factor that determined from the standard.
• The shielding effect shall be considered for component in the leeward sector that located
in parallel or intersect with other component in which align with direction of the wind. The
standard specifies in detail for this requirement.
As described, the wind shall be considered in all directions to determine worst-case stresses
in the structure.
In case of insufficient data in EPA calculation for antenna and cable, the wind load shall be
determined from data provided by the antenna manufacturer. Alternatively, an equivalent area
equal to c x A in m2 for antenna and cable shall be considered at any point on the structure.
Any assumption on mutual shielding between antennas are not permitted. The effect of
shielding shall comply with the requirement as described in the standard.

design and for gusset plate or similar, the thickness is subject to the stress design outcomes.
All secondary members such as plan bracing and horizontal shall be designed with capability
of supporting 1.5 kN load safely at any weakest point along the member without producing a
permanent deformation. The load shall be applied vertically on the member at no-wind load
condition.
Any structure parts could trap and collect water shall be avoided in the steelwork design. If not
avoidable, an adequate drain hole is required to discharge the water.
The above description shall not be limited to the structural member only. The member
connection including bolts and nuts shall have similar consideration. In general, one bolt shall
consist of 1 nut, 1 plain washer and 1 spring washer.

specified in Cl. 2.6.9.1.3.

In the absence of more accurate data, the design wind force on microwave antennas shall be
determined using Annex C.

In the absence of more accurate data specifying effective projected area values for each
critical wind direction, the effective projected area, (EPA) A, of an appurtenance shall be
determined from the equation:

(EPA)A = Ka [ (EPA)N cos2(θ) + (EPA)T sin2(θ) ]

where:

Ka = 1.0 for round appurtenances, regardless of location, when transitional or

supercritical force coefficients are considered.

= (1- ε) for appurtenances when subcritical force coefficients are considered,

entirely inside the cross section of a latticed structure or outside the cross
section entirely within a face zone as defined in Figure 2-3, where ε is the
minimum solidity ratio of the structure considering each face for the section
containing the appurtenance. Ka need not exceed 0.6.

= 0.8 for antenna mounting configurations (when subcritical force

coefficients are considered only) such as side arms, T-arms, stand-offs,
etc. when 3 or more mounts are located at the same relative elevation
(shielding from the mounting configuration and shielding of mounting
members from antennas is excluded, refer to 2.6.9.4)

= 1.0 for other appurtenances unless otherwise specified in this section

(Notes:
1. Ka = 1.0 may be conservatively used for any appurtenance
2. The value of Ka is constant for all wind directions)

θ = relative angle between the azimuth associated with the normal face of
the appurtenance and the wind direction (Refer to Figure 2-4).

(EPA)N = effective projected area associated with the windward face normal to the
azimuth of the appurtenance.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION_LAMP POLE Page 14 of 20

edotco Group Sdn Bhd

(EPA)T = effective projected area associated with the windward side face of the
appurtenance. The larger value of (EPA)N or (EPA)T may be
conservatively used for (EPA)A for all wind directions. In the absence of
more accurate data, an appurtenance shall be considered as consisting of
flat and round components in accordance with the following:

(EPA)N = Σ (CA AA)N

(EPA)T = Σ (CA AA)T

CA = force coefficient from Table 2-8

AA = projected area of a component of the appurtenance. The additional

projected area of ice shall be considered as a round component for loading
combinations that include ice.

Equivalent flat plate areas based on Revision C of this Standard shall be

multiplied by a force coefficient, CA, equal to 2.0 except when the
appurtenance is made up of round members only, a force coefficient of 1.8
may be applied.

The total (EPA)A for a wireless carrier shall be determined in accordance

with Annex C when specific antenna and mounting information is not
available.

(EPA)A = Ka [(EPA)N cos2(θ) + (EPA)T sin2(θ) ]

(EPA)N = Σ (CA AA)N
(EPA)T = Σ (CA AA)T
CA = force coefficient from Table 2-8
AA = projected area of a component of the appurtenance

Note:
Please refer to the TIA-222-G standard for all the related table and clauses specified under
design parameters.
