Assignment No. 2 Due: 22nd Aug. 2024 Lecture
Student Entry No: 2024XXX or email id: XXXX
The problems below have data given in terms of    and . These problems must be solved
and submitted after substituting for    and  from your entry number or email id. For
example, if the entry number is 2024XXX2421 then = = = and =

1) At the instant shown, the rigid rod AOBC rotates about the
z axis at an angular velocity of (1 + 0.1 × 𝛼)𝑟𝑎𝑑/𝑠 and
angular acceleration of (2 − 0.1 × 𝛽)𝑟𝑎𝑑/𝑠 2 relative to
the ground. A rigid disc mounted on the arm at C rotates
relative to the arm at an angular velocity of
(2 + 0.2 × 𝛾)𝑟𝑎𝑑/𝑠 and angular acceleration of
(3 − 0.2 × 𝛿)𝑟𝑎𝑑/𝑠 2 about the axis at C. A block slides
in the slot in the disc at a constant speed of
(1 + 0.2 × 𝛼)𝑚/𝑠 at this instant. At this instant, find: (a)
Angular velocity and angular acceleration of the disc
relative to the ground. (b) Acceleration of C relative to the
ground. (c) Acceleration of the centre P, of the sliding
block, relative to the ground. The data shown in the figure
are for 𝛼 = 𝛽 = 𝛾 = 𝛿 = 0.

2) The drive wheel of a tape-recorder has a constant angular

velocity 𝜔1 = (10 + 𝛿)𝑟𝑎𝑑/𝑠. The thickness of the tape is
𝑡 = 0.01(10 − 𝛽/2)𝑚𝑚 . Find the angular acceleration of the
driven wheel at the instant when 𝑟1 = 2𝑟2 = (5 + 𝛾⁄2)𝑐𝑚.

3) The rates of rotation of bar 1 relative to the ground, arm 2 relative to bar 1 and disc 3 relative
to arm 2 are given (Figure 3). 𝜔1 = 2𝜔2 = 𝜔3 /2 = (10 + 𝛾)𝑟𝑎𝑑/𝑠 and 𝜔̇ 1 = −0.5𝜔̇ 2 =
2𝜔̇ 3 = (1 − 0.1 × 𝛼)𝑟𝑎𝑑/𝑠 2 . Find the angular accelerations of arm 2 and disc 3 relative to
the ground. Find the velocity and acceleration of D, with respect to body 1 and with respect
to the ground. AB = 1m, BD = 2m. (Note: Rod ABD is in the y-z plane at this instant.)

4) In Fig. 4, crank 1 rotates at 𝜔 = (10 + 𝛽) 𝑟𝑎𝑑/𝑠, 𝜔̇ = −(1 − 0.1 × 𝛿) 𝑟𝑎𝑑/𝑠 2 and rod 2
slides through a swivel block at B. Find the angular velocity and angular acceleration of rod
2 at this instant.
