ACTION RESEARCH PROPOSAL

Project Title: ELECTRONIC ATTENDANCE MONITORING SYSTEM: ITS EFFICACY IN

MONITORING LEARNERS' DAILY ATTENDANCE AND THE IMPACT TO THE WHOLE
SCHOOL COMMUNITY OF SAN FERNANDO

Proponent: ICT Coordinator and LIS Coordinator

Project Location: San Fernando Integrated School

Proposed Date: January 15, 2024

I. Rationale

Education research has long suggested that broader indicators of student behavior, such as
student engagement, school climate, and student well-being, are associated with academic
performance (Emma García and Elaine Weiss 2018)
It is crucial to monitor student attendance as it is closely linked with student engagement and
overall well-being. By tracking attendance, educators can identify patterns and potential issues
that may be affecting a student's academic performance. Additionally, regular attendance is often
a requirement for academic success and can impact a student's educational attainment. By
implementing effective attendance monitoring, schools can provide targeted support to students
who may be at risk of dropping out, ultimately promoting a positive school climate and fostering a
culture of academic success (Adelman C 2006).
Having an education is essential to reaching one's life goals. However, teenage absenteeism
compromises their chances of meeting their learning objectives, thus a monitoring system should
be devised to solve the issue. A growing lack of interest in education and the likelihood of
dropping out can result from absenteeism. The purpose of this action research was to ascertain
how well the Electronic Attendance Management System (EAMS) worked as an intervention to
lower the absenteeism rate among public secondary students. San Fernando Integrated School
wanted to improve the monitoring of attendance of students in order to be more effective and
efficient in managing the students.

II. Action Research Questions

The purpose of the study is to ascertain how the San Fernando Integrated School's EAMS
(Electronic Attendance Management System) affects the monitoring of student attendance.
This will seek the following questions
1. What is the status of efficiency of student attendance monitoring in San Fernando Integrated
School?
2. How satisfied are the students and parents in using the EAMS machine?
3. How does the EAMS (Electronic Attendance Management System) affect the absenteeism in
SFIS ?
4. What can be the implication based on the result of the study?

NULL Hypothesis: There is no significant status between the attendance of the students of San
Fernando Integrated School on the S.Y 2024 before and after the use of EAMS (Electronic
Attendance Management System)

Expected Output
a. the increase of efficiency in monitoring of attendance of students in SFIS
b. determine the satisfaction rate of students and parents in the use of EAMS
c. Make the students feel that their presence is important to the school though EAMS
d. decrease absenteeism rate with the use of EAMS

III. Proposed Innovation, Intervention and Strategy

The respondents of this study were the 110 students of San Fernando Integrated School
and their parents. The students and their parent were purposely chosen by the researcher to
correlate absenteeism and increase student achievement. The grade level of the students
was intentionally chosen because according to the attendance record of the school, it is the
identified there are several students from Grade 7 to Grade 10 who are at risk of dropping
out.
The school will gather information about the students through demographic profiling. The
school will create a machine called a EAMS or Electronic Attendance Management System.
The EAMS is a machine that logs the students entry and exit in the school premises in
real time. Aside from that, there will be a prompt message to be received by the parent/
guardian’s mobile number that will notify them that their sons/ daughter have been to school.
The EAMS also will create a log report of students in excel format. It can be sorted daily,
weekly and monthly. This log report could be an accurate basis of the students attendance
as it consolidates the report automatically.
The attendance of the students will be compared from the first three months of the
school year of 2024 to the rest of the months. Evaluation of the improvement will be
monitored by the researcher
IV. Action Research Method

a. Participants and/or Other Sources of Data and Information

Grade Level Male Female TOTAL

Grade 7 11 7 18
Grade 8 17 14 31
Grade 9 11 17 28
Grade 10 14 19 33

b. Data Gathering Methods

The descriptive-comparative design was employed in this action research study as

part of a quantitative methodology. Descriptive design was used in answering
descriptive questions 2 and 3 regarding research on the satisfaction survey of the
students and parent regarding the Project EAMS . Comparative design, on the other
hand, provided an answer to the inferential query that quantified the variation between
the historical and present data.

A frequency distribution will be conducted on the responses of the students and

parent on the survey questionnaire?

The description, documentation, analysis, and interpretation of the collected and

processed data are all part of descriptive research. It looks for a relationship between
the variables that are currently in place through comparison and contrast (Viscarra,
2003).

c. Data Analysis Plan

A survey will be conducted on the first 3 months of the school year 2023-2024 to the
attendance monitoring of students and satisfaction of the parents regarding the matter.

Descriptive Analysis will be conducted to the Satisfaction Survey and Comparative

Analysis will be used for the data analysis.

A simple frequency table will be used in the validity of the data.
