Balloon Inflation

Experiment
Teacher Notes

Materials
 Vinegar
 Baking soda
 Empty water/soda bottle (approximately16-20 oz. in size)
 Balloon
 Funnel (optional)

Instructions
1. Pour 1 cup of vinegar into the empty bottle.
2. Put 2 tbsp. of baking soda in the balloon (a funnel helps this
process).
3. Put the balloon on the top of the water bottle tightly.
4. Tilt the balloon up to pour the baking soda into the bottle. Make
sure to hold the balloon tightly.

Optional Extension activities

Try the same experiment, but use different amounts of vinegar/baking
soda to see if the results change. Don’t use too much though or the
balloon might pop.

You can also try mixing the vinegar & baking soda in the water bottle
without the balloon on top (I’d do this over something to catch the
mixture that comes out!)

tightly & tilt it up to pour the baking soda into the bottle. Make sure to
hold the balloon tightly.
