How are case-representation decisions made within the office? Does the practitioner elect to
specialize within any particular area of practice? If so, why? If not, why not?

Law firms make case representation decisions based on the area of law. Some firms offer various
options within the same firm like personal injury lawyers, litigation attorneys, family law
attorneys, sports attorneys, etc. Attorneys choose which area of law they want to specialize in,
and not all of them choose to focus on the same area of law. For instance, I would choose to
practice family law if I were to become an attorney because it's my area of passion and interest.
During my visit to the class, I had the chance to meet every third-year law student, and not all of
them were interested in family law. Some were more interested in immigration law, sports law,
criminal law, and other areas.

Who is responsible for determining the allocation of office resources to scheduling clients and
cases?

The responsibility of allocating office resources to schedule clients and cases lies between the
attorney and the paralegal or legal assistant. The legal assistant or paralegal would screen the
case via a phone call and then forward it to the attorney. The attorney would then review the case
and decide whether to take it. If the attorney decides to take the case, they will instruct the legal
assistant or paralegal to use office resources to schedule the client.
What legal resources are publicly or privately available to assist in formulating legal advice?\

The Creighton University Law Library is available to the public. The law library is open from
7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, seven days a week. This does not include. Holiday recesses. And testing
times. The law library is a great public resource. All they ask is that you come in, keep quiet and
do not disturb anyone as they are studying. And the public is more than welcome into the law
library. The law Library is open to performing legal research needs. Library hours are shortened
during breaks. It's. If ever you need to use the law library and the doors are locked, they lock at
6:00 PM. There is a phone number that you could call to contact a reference librarian and the
librarian would walk down and come and open the door for you to utilize the law library for legal
research. There is also a law library in the Douglas County Courthouse available to the public. I
have included it. A few websites below that is available digitally online.

What does a “typical” day look like?

As a family law professor, Professor Brooks grades papers and works on her book in the
mornings. Her office hours are from 1 PM to 4 PM, and then she teaches a class from 4 PM to 7
PM. During her office hours, she prepares for her class. In today's class, all the students were
third-year students, and most of them will be graduating in May 2024. The students were
assigned a mock case as an assignment. Professor Brooks sent the students emails that included
assignments that had been turned in early in the week and checked their mock invoices that they
would send out to clients.

What is the opinion of professionals about the state of the profession today? Are there too
many lawyers? Not enough?

I attended a class on Family Law, where Professor Brooks mentioned that there are numerous
Family Law attorneys in Nebraska. However, Iowa is currently facing a shortage of family law
attorneys, and there is a constant need for more lawyers as many are retiring from the profession
every day.
What predictions would the practitioner care to make about the direction of the profession? Is
arbitration going to acquire a more significant role in determining potential outcomes?

Challenges posed by AI in discovery and drafting work, client interaction, and concluding legal
matters will continue to emphasize the importance of soft skills and legal knowledge for training
lawyers. However, corporations in America may only turn to arbitration as an expedient means
to win their cases.

If you are observing within a courtroom setting, you may want to learn how cases are
scheduled, how juries are selected, how lawyers are appointed and how trials are conducted.

In this class, I learned that cases are scheduled as they are filed with the clerk of court. Once the
case is filed, parents must attend mediation first to create a parenting plan. Mediation is
facilitated by the court and clients pay for the mediator's services. Once parenting classes have
been completed by the parents and scheduled for mediation, the complaint for divorce is
documented for a court hearing. However, the party may opt to file the claim solely on paper if
all issues have been settled between the parties. If anything is contested, then the issue is set for
trial and courts will have a special day on a first come first serve basis.

Professor Brooks,

I just want to take a moment to express my gratitude for spending the day with me. It was a truly
memorable experience, and I am incredibly grateful for your kindness and knowledge. Your
leadership and dedication to the legal profession are truly admirable. The class was very
welcoming and helpful, and I believe that reflects your excellent leadership. I was able to take
thorough notes and all my questions were answered in a warm and welcoming manner. I am
truly inspired to follow in your footsteps and hope to be as successful one day. I was thrilled to
learn that the Law Library is open to the public. I hope to stop by again in the future and read
some law books. Thank you so much for having me.

Warmly,
