Lesson Plan in Science 7

December 13, 2023 WEDNESDAY

1:00 - 2:00

I. Objective:
• Define biotic and abiotic components of an ecosystem.
• Classify biotic and abiotic components of ecosystem.
• Appreciate the importance of biotic and abiotic components in an ecosystem.

II. Subject Matter:

A. Topic: Abiotic and Biotic Components of Ecosystem
B. Reference: Science Textbook - Chapter 4, Pages 56-63 and Science 7 SLM Q2 Module 7, MELC
C. Materials: Chalk and Board, SMART TV, printed materials, Laptop, and pens.

III. Procedure:
A. Review:
- Briefly review the previous lesson on ecosystems.
- Ask students to recall any components of an ecosystem that they can remember.

B. Activity:
1. Introduction (15 minutes): Activity Title: TRY YOUR REPLY
- Direction: The teacher will show a picture on the TV and the learners will identify whether it
is LIVING ORGANISM or NON- LIVING ORGANISM.
 Learners will try to be alert with their reply by.
 STANDING UP from their seats if they choose to answer LIVING ORGANISM and,
 SEATING DOWN if it is NON-LIVING ORGANISM.
 Remain in your last position until a new image is flashed on screen.

C. Analysis:
- Lead a class discussion on the identified components, emphasizing the differences between
abiotic and biotic elements.
- Encourage critical thinking by asking questions such as "How do these components interact
with each other?"

D. Abstraction:
- Summarize the key points about abiotic and biotic components.
- Relate the concept to real-world examples and discuss the interdependence of these
components in maintaining a balanced ecosystem.

E. Application:
- Provide GROUP ACTIVITY that engages the learners to classify the abiotic or biotic elements in
an ecosystem.
Group Activity Title: BEAT THE MINUTE
Direction: The learners will be grouped into two groups preferably male and female group. The
teacher will post an image of Ecosystem on the board intended for two groups and the learners will
classify the biotic and abiotic components in the image.
 Learners will beat the 3 minutes time in their answering.
 Before the group activity starts, learners will be given 1 minute to plan for their strategy.
 One at a time, the learner will go to the board, mark his/ her answer then go back to the designated
place of the group and after the others will follow.
 With a twist, the learners who will be going to the board will carry a book on his/her head and a pen
on mouth without falling it in his/her back and forth.
 The procedure will be the same to all the members of the group.

- Discuss the impact of changes in abiotic and biotic factors on an ecosystem.

IV. Evaluation:

Directions: Classify the things in the table as either biotic or abiotic component.
Thing Biotic or Abiotic Component
1. Air
2. Birds
3. Earthworm
4. Fire
5. Grass
6. Heat
7. Lightning
8. Rocks
9. Soil
10. Water

V. Agreement:
- Research and select a specific ecosystem and write its biotic and abiotic components in your ½
crosswise to passed on our next class.
For example:
Ecosystem Abiotic Components Biotic Components

Forest Soil Trees
