What are the Laws in the Philippines?

1. Republic Act No. 10844, otherwise known as the “Department of

Information and Communications Technology Act of 2015”, which
was signed into law on 23 May 2016. In accordance with the law, the
Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)
shall be the primary policy, planning, coordinating, implementing, and
administrative entity of the Executive Branch of the government that will
plan, develop, and promote the national ICT development agenda
(Republic Act No. 10844, n.d.)
● The law stated that DICTs have vital roles such as providing Wi-Fi
connections without charges in any public places, strengthening the
development of information and communication, ensuring data security
and consumer privacy and so on. This law is beneficial not only for the
DICT but also to citizens and it promotes ICT development in the
Philippines.
2. Republic Act No. 10175, An act defining CYBERCRIME, providing for the
prevention, investigation, suppression and the imposition of penalties
therefor and for other purposes; (Republic Act No. 10175, 2012)
● The act aims to take legal action against different cybercrimes that
circulate easily, especially in our current generation with high technology.
The law provides protection for any victim and penalties for accused as
well. A lot of youth are exposed too much in social media and the internet.
It cannot prevent the awful situation for example cyberbullying but with this
law/act we can educate the youth and guide them in the proper way. Also,
encourage any victim to stand and take legal action.
3. Republic Act 8293: Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines

on. It protects property rights especially in the high technology generation
to prevent any crime such as plagiarism.
4. Republic Act 9975: Anti-Child Pornography Act
● The act aims to protect children and youth anti pornography that
circulate not only in any clubs or hideouts also in any form of
media. Any person who explicit sexual activity must be punished.
For parents and guardia it is important to guide and educate the
children properly and guide them to use any platforms of media to
prevent this kind of situation.
5. Republic Act 9995: An act defining and penalizing the Crime of Photo
and Video Voyeurism, prescribing penalties therefor, and for other
purposes
● This act prohibited the person caught taking pictures or videos of
any person without his/her consent. For example taking video of
your partner while having sexual activity or capture any parts of
his/her body and post it in any platforms of media without their
consent. It is not appropriate to upload or invade someone’s
privacy. For couples, if your partner trusts you, don't break it and
respect them.
