CLAUSE
is a group of words that includes a subject
and a verb.

EXAMPLE:
I will bring an umbrella because it might rain later.

Before it gets sold, I will buy tickets online.

My classmates already started the quiz when I arrived at school.


TYPES OF CLAUSES
a group of words that can stand on its own as a sentence.
INDEPENDENT It has a subject, a verb and has a complete thought.
CLAUSE

TYPES OF CLAUSES
a group of words that contains a subject and a verb, but it is
DEPENDENT not a complete thought. Since it is not a complete thought, a
dependent clause cannot stand on its own as a sentence.
CLAUSE It is dependent to being attached to an independent clause
to form a sentence.

I will bring an umbrella because it might rain later.

Before it gets sold, I will buy tickets online.

My classmates already started the quiz when I arrived at school.


TYPES OF
DEPENDENT CLAUSE RELATIVE PRONOUNS

ADJECTIVE CLAUSE
a type of dependent clause that
has subject and verb but can’t
stand alone as a sentence.
It functions like an adjective
because it gives more information
about a noun.
It also known as relative clause
because they always start with a
relative pronoun.
TAKE NOTE
Adjective clause usually cannot be moved in the

sentence, it needs to stay with the noun it modifies.

Adjective clause come directly after the noun they are


2 referring to. This might be at the end of a sentence or
embedded into the middle of a sentence.
EXAMPLES
Have you seen the man who is in the new marketing

Have you seen the boy whose mother is on TV?

DEPENDENT CLAUSE CONJUNCTION
ADJECTIVE CLAUSE
it is a subordinate clause that modifies
or describe a verb, adjective or another
adverb.

answers questions such as how, why,


when, where or under what conditions
something happened, and it usually
begin with a subordinating conjunction.

They are frequently moveable within


the sentence.
EXAMPLES:
Before sunrise, he woke up.

She left the keys where I could find them.

If it rains, we’ll stay at home

She bought a gift for the party.
