Project NUMBER
Nurturing Understanding in Mathematics and Beyond for Excellence and
Resiliency
I.OVERVIEW:
Mathematics plays a vital role in our life. Learning its concepts and fundamental
operations will augment the difficulties encountered in the improvement of their
numeracy level. Math serves as a universal language and equips us with the
necessary skills for survival.
Our learners need solid math skills as they head to the future. In this time that Science,
technology, engineering and math careers are growing quickly it is important that strong
foundation in Mathematics should be established among young learners. Covid 19 pandemic
left a great impact in our education system not only in the Philippines but in the whole world.
Learning gaps must be filled. Deteriorating numeracy skills among learners were identified.
Parents as learning facilitators are not enough to fill the needs of the learners specially the
major subjects like Mathematics. Mathematics is interesting yet difficult that is why we need
to give our learners what is/are needed to be learned in order to build strong foundation in
math.
II. RATIONALE:
The creation of Project NUMBER is in line with DepEd calls to strengthen numeracy,
literacy programs, integrating peace competencies’ in revitalized Kto 12. It can be noted
that Vice President and Secretary of Education Sara Z. Duterte said that the department will
revitalize its Reading, Science and Technology and Math programs as part of the
MATATAG: Bansang Makabata , Bansang Makabansa AGENDA.
This localized Mathematics program is also anchored in the Balayan East District
program BIBA GANDA Bawat Isang BAlayeño, Galing at Alam sa Numeracy…
Dapat Angat ,stated as well in the School’s Learning Recovery Plan.
III.IMPLEMENTATION
A. PRE-IMPLEMENTATION
At the beginning of the classes for SY 2023-2024 ,pupils were assessed using
the numeracy tools provided by the district. Every grade level administered a
numeracy assessment to every pupil by their respective teachers.
B. DURING IMPLEMENTATION
C. POST IMPLEMENTATION
The numeracy assessment tool serves as the monitoring tool in Mathematics.
Its result is consolidated and documented for its purpose of diagnosing the pupils at
risks. The result is used in addressing the needs of the pupils in numeracy.
IV.HIGHLIGHTS OF ACCOMPLISHMENT
Here are the results of the numeracy assessment and the MPS in Mathematics:
MATHEMATICS MPS
GRADE LEVEL FIRST SECOND THIRD FOURTH
1 83.09 84.87 86.11 87.77
2 81.47 79.95 83.40 80.78
3 80.75 80.78 82.09 81.35
TOTAL 81.77 81.87 83.87 83.30
4 75.94 78.12 79.55 80.71
5 77.62 78.39 76.31 77.80
6 79.96 78.59 77.92 80.16
TOTAL 77.84 78.37 77.93 79.56
Interpretation: Key Stage 1 achieved higher MPS than Key Stage 2.The Key Stage 1,
MPS is increasing while in Key Stage 2 the MPS results are inconsistent.
Analysis : The complexity of the lessons as the pupils move to the higher grade level
affects the MPS.
