PR2 LAS Week 2 ABM HUMSS
PR2 LAS Week 2 ABM HUMSS
This worksheet was designed with you in mind. This was written
specifically to meet your needs as a senior high school student-
researcher. This leads you through the process of understanding concepts
of quantitative research. This also leads you through the basic elements
of research which are essential for good research practices. This
introduces identifying the inquiry and stating the problem of your study.
As pointed out in the previous module, the research topic is not
something that should be considered without any valid reasons. Hence,
this module helps you make a final decision on your research topic, and
helps you make a self- reflection on the things that you need to consider
in constructing your research title. It also emphasizes the importance of
specifying research titles. This also provides you different tasks to assess
your understanding on the topic.
At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:
a. discuss the guidelines in choosing a topic, topics to be avoided and
sources of research topics;
b. value the importance of narrowing down a research topic by
presenting specific research topics; and
c. formulate their own research title based on their chosen topic.
Research Topic
The research topic is the subject or area to be investigated by the
researcher. It is the beginning of a research work and may also be referred
to as the general problem. Research topics are varied and numerous and
would largely depend upon the researcher’s preference. Nevertheless,
topics chosen should be researchable – meaning that the knowledge and
information about it can be supported by evidence that are observable,
factual, and logical.

Background of the Study
The hand is the most symbolized part of the human body. It is often used
to depict skill, action and purpose. Through our hands, we may learn,
create and accomplish. Hence, the hand in this learning resource signifies
that you as a learner are capable and empowered to successfully achieve
the relevant competencies and skills at your own pace and time. Your
academic success lies in your own hands!
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and
time. You will be enabled to process the contents of the learning resource
while being an active learner.
GEAR UP / GABAY
After going through this worksheet, you are expected to:
a. describe the background of research;
b. write the introduction of your research; and
c. demonstrate cooperation and sense of
responsibility in working
with the group.
This lesson will guide you on writing the overview of your research. Also,
this will enumerate suggested information that you must include in the
background of your study.
Activity 1
ENGAGE /
ENGGANYO
1. Concept Discovery:
⮚ Ask the students about the purpose of writing the background of
the study.
⮚ Ask the students about the contents of the background of the
study.
⇒ What are the things to include in writing an introduction to your
research?
⇒ Where do you think should you start?
⇒ How should you write the introduction to your research?
Directions: Read through the text of this lesson and define the following
words. Write the meaning on the right column.
1. Introduction
2. Context
3. Background of the
Study
4. Scope
5. Research Gaps
NURTURE /
It includes:
1. discussion of the problem in general and the specific situations
observed and experienced by the researcher (macro to micro
approach);
2. concepts or ideas related to the problem including clarification
of important terminologies; and
3. discussion of the existing or present conditions and what is
aimed to be the future or the gap to be filled in by the research.
